About Francesca

I want to get to know you and your interests, achievements, aspirations and goals. Most students I've worked with over the past 15+ years have no idea what they want to major in and that's fine. You don't need to! Whether you're an A+ or a C student, whether you scored in the 95th percentile on your SATs or didn't take them at all, whether you play four instruments or are completely tone-deaf, there is at least one college or university (likely more than one) out there that's right for you. I want to help you to identify, apply to, get accepted to, afford and attend that school.

Together, we will:
prioritize your college admission's to-do list and keep you accountable for it
focus your search parameters based on a number of criteria
determine what standardized tests to take, when and how often and help you prepare for them
develop an academic resume
discuss who best to write letters of recommendation
complete and submit the Common App including the dreaded essays
review application supplemental materials (required by some schools)
research Financial Aid, Scholarship and Grant opportunities
plan and prep for college tours, interviews, overnights, etc.
set realistic expectations based on your interests, abilities, achievements, experiences & finances
celebrate your acceptances

As a homeschooling parent of 4, a homeschool co-op teacher of multiple subjects and every grade level, and an English, reading and writing tutor for well over a decade, I am extremely aware that one method of instruction does not fit all! My ability to determine and to teach to each student's learning style - whether an auditory learner, an intrapersonal learner, a kinesthetic learner, etc. - is what sets me apart as a teacher.

Colleges, like much in life, are not one size fits all! And as such, there is no one college or university that is universally better than another. Having a recognizable name, being an Ivy League school, and/or producing famous alumni does not make a particular school the best fit for every college applicant. I think it is this philosophy that sets me apart from other college counselors. I am not interested in getting you (or your kid, if you're a parent) into Princeton, if Princeton isn't the best fit for you (or your child).

"Extremely Knowledgeable College Counselor and Tutor - Highly Recommend"

- Diane, Arlington Heights, IL on 10/24/16
Francesca replied on 10/25/2016

Thank you for your kind words, Diane. It was a pleasure working with your son on his essay. I love when students find a clever, innovative way to write about maturation. In your son's case, writing about stepping outside his comfort zone to become less of an introvert and more of a participant in his high school community. And of course, his opening line - pink swimsuit; October football game - is a classic. That'll catch any reader's attention! Best of luck, Francesca

Thank you, Candace. It helps me to do my job when the writer is as naturally talented and intuitive as your son. The description of the course offering he would offer at college was so fabulous, it made me want to apply and enroll! Best of luck to you both,

Francesca replied on 10/14/2016

Thank you for the high praise, Rachel. Your son is a strong writer and really impressed me by choosing one of the riskier essay prompts. He did a great job sharing his experience about developing his own political opinions without being argumentative. Kudos to him!

"Great teacher, friendly, knowledgable. Highly Recommend!"

- Jennifer, Redding, CT on 9/25/16
Francesca replied on 10/14/2016

Meeting with your daughter is one of the highlights of my week, Jennifer. It can be tough trying to turn any sort of standardized test prep into something remotely resembling fun, but I think we've accomplished that while also mastering strategies that will meet with success. It was so exciting when she aced the rhetoric practice test sections at our last meeting. We were two fist-bumping fools. Thanks for sharing her with me!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

Most students I have worked with on ACT English, Reading and Writing prep score between 27 and 34 in these subject areas. I've worked with all of the currently published test prep books/materials and find the greatest amount of success with Kaplan.

College Counseling

Because my children attended different private secondary schools, I've had the opportunity to work closely with and learn a great deal from each of their private school's College Counselors. Unlike a public or parochial school, where high school seniors (sometimes juniors) are aided in the college process by their Guidance Counselors, my children have had the benefit of working one-on-one with a dedicated counselor. Beginning in their sophomore years, each of my children had the good fortune to work with an individual whose sole responsibility it was to assist them in navigating, the oft times, overwhelming college application and admission process with a result of acceptance at the best-suited colleges and universities for each of them.

The more I speak with friends and clients who have recently muddied their feet in the college application pool, the more I appreciate the experiences our family has had navigating such an exciting, albeit, stressful and often anxious time. Too often, I hear stories of bright, charming, perfectly capable high school seniors not being accepted at their top choice of schools. It's no fun hearing someone embarrassingly mumble that they're going to such-and-such college because, “It's the only one I got into.” With over 3,500 4-year colleges and universities in the U.S. to choose from, no student should have to “settle” on a school due to a lack of options.

Colleges, like much in life, are not one size fits all! And as such, there is no one college or university that is universally better than another. Having a recognizable name, being an Ivy League school, and/or producing famous alumni does not make a particular school the best fit for every college applicant. I am not interested in getting you (or your kid, if you're a parent) into Princeton, if Princeton isn't the best fit for you (or your child).
