I am a reading specialist with over 30 years teaching experience ranging from middle school to college. As a newly retired teacher, I was fully trained in Common Core practices, and the application and interpretation of close reading, and formative and summative assessments. In conjunction with the current focus on the comprehension of non-fiction text, I have provided direct instruction to scaffold lessons in support of the cognitive development of higher order thinking skills. Additionally, I have the skill and training to assist students needing instruction in expository, or other written forms of expression.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
