Harvard University (History)
As far as degrees go, I got my B.A. in history from Harvard in 2014, and will get a J.D. from Yale in 2017. Because I love teaching, I'm getting certified to teach high school history in Massachusetts after graduation, rather than practicing law. In college, I tutored undergrads and high school students in writing at the Harvard Writing Center for 3 years. This involved helping students formulate arguments and create well structured essays in a variety of disciplines, ranging form the sciences to the humanities.
As for me, I'm a very friendly and easy-going guy who enjoys helping people out. I live with my fiancee and dog in New Haven, and play guitar and drums as often as I can. I believe learning should be as painless as possible.
After completing 5 years of French in high school and doing coursework in French literature in college, I spent 3 months working in Paris for a French start-up, during which time I developed friendships in French and attained fluency in the language. I have a firm grasp of French grammar and read it with fluency.
History has always been a passion of mine. I am in the process of getting certified to teach high school history in Massachusetts. As an undergraduate, my senior thesis in American history earned the grade of "highest honors" from the Harvard history department. At law school, I am specializing in legal history. I am well versed in world history and U.S. history, having taken courses in topics as diverse as the Byzantine Empire and 20th=century political history.
Feel free to reach out if you think I might be a good fit. I'm happy to work with kids of all ages and all learning styles. My number-one goal is to create a positive learning experience that leaves the student happy as well as prepared. Thanks for reading! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
