Quinnipiac University (Political Science)
University of Connecticut (J.D.)
I have always had a passion for teaching others, and helping others improve and achieve their goals is such a rewarding experience. I recently graduated from Quinnipiac University (Hamden, CT) with a double major in Political Science and Philosophy, and prior to that I graduated magna cum laude from Notre Dame High School (West Haven, CT). While attending Quinnipiac, I served as a Peer Tutor in the Learning Commons for two full years, tutoring underclassmen students in subjects such as Math, Business, and History. I am currently pursuing my J.D. at the University of Connecticut School of Law.
Although I have a wide array of knowledge in several fields, I specialize particularly in test prep, both for the ACT and SAT. Having excelled at both tests myself, I have amassed many helpful tactics and methods over the years that can improve any of my students scores. My goal for each session is challenge my students while also keeping them comfortable and relaxed. My approach is very kind and supportive, but also organized and focused in order to maximize our time together and see immediate results.
I am generally available Monday-Saturday from 9am-8pm, and Sunday from 12pm-9pm. Since I am relatively new to formal tutoring, my hourly rate is a modest $40/hour, but I also offer lesson packages at discounted prices. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success!
I have taken all forms of math, including geometry, trigonometry, and statistics. In high school I took AP Calculus, as well as two more Calculus courses at Quinnipiac. When I took the tests myself, I received a 700 on SAT Math and a 32 on ACT Math.
Due to my double major at Quinnipiac, I wrote an endless amount of essays, research papers, and legal briefs, in addition to the intense amount of reading we were assigned weekly. This has allowed me to develop many useful tips and tricks to read faster and more efficiently, and to produce high-quality written work. When I took the tests, I received a 710 on both SAT writing and SAT Reading, and a 31 on ACT English.
I believe that in order for any tutor to be successful, they must be patient and relateable. As a recent college graduate (and older brother to a high school aged sister), I am very capable of making tutoring a rewarding and enjoyable experience. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
