About Allie

I have 5 years of experience with tutoring diverse subjects, with a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

In college, I worked as a tutor for an on-campus learning center for 3 years, helping my peers succeed in subjects such as biology, math, physics, and even preliminary programming and engineering courses. I graduated from college with a degree in Biology, and took several higher level genetics courses for my major, as well as a graduate level genetics course at Yale.

I tutored beginning college-level MATLAB as a peer tutor at my university. In addition, I acted as a TA for a freshmen-level MATLAB programming course my sophomore year. As a TA, I worked directly with students in a tutor-like relationship to help them solve problems as they coded.

In addition, I spent a summer teaching high school students biology and and basic laboratory technique as part of my alma-mater's summer outreach program. I have also taught a small discussion section at Yale for a fundamentals of biology course. Outside of STEM fields, I also have experience editing written documents, as well as tutoring elementary school reading and grammar.

I enjoy teaching because I love to help people learn. I understand that everyone learns in different ways, so I try to teach using multiple approaches. I believe that with persistence and care, anyone can succeed. With that in mind, whether you or your child needs just one session to brush up or several recurring sessions to master a subject, I am willing to help.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Genetics

I graduated from college with a degree in Biology, and took several higher level genetics courses for my major, as well as a graduate level genetics course at Yale. During college, I acted as a peer tutor, and tutored for several higher level science courses, including genetics. In addition, I have worked in several labs and have hands-on experience with genetic technique.

Organic Chemistry

As a biology major, I took a full year of organic chemistry, which included a lab portion. During college, I acted as a peer tutor, and tutored for several higher level science courses, including organic chemistry. Therefore, I have classroom, hands-on, and tutoring experience in this subject.
