About Robin

I am a college professor of cognitive psychology. My research area AND my teaching methods focus on engaging the whole person and using active learning in meaningful contexts. I believe tutoring must take a calm. long-term approach, for the most effective results. I can help a bit with last minute test preparation, but I can't promise long-term benefits to this approach. I have experience working with learners from grade 1 through graduate school, and I have a successful record at each of these levels helping learners understand things that had been very uncomfortable or overwhelming for them. I expect every learner to be able to stretch to achieve new accomplishments in reading, writing, math, statistics, scientific method, but I also have enormous compassion for how hard each of these areas can be to learn. I have devoted my entire career to making learning more effective and satisfying. I have tutored students in math, through 6th grade. I have tutored students in statistics through graduate school. I have tutored students in general writing through elementary school. I teach college students to use the scientific method, statistics and APA style writing. I cannot accept any WCSU students for tutoring. I am a college professor of cognitive psychology. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have a PhD in Cognitive Science and I routinely teach statistics to undergraduate students. I have been tutoring students in algebra since 1975, but I am completely current with both Common Core and NY Regents exams.
