I have my Master's in Psychology from the University of Phoenix and I have been working in Human Services for 5 years. I have counseling experience with individual, families, and groups. I also have a degree in international studies with a focus on Spanish/Latin America/Caribbean. I have studied Spanish for many years and I absolutely love it. In 2007 I became a Literacy volunteer and did that program for 2 years. I had a total of four students whom I helped gain proficiency in English and I helped one student pass her citizenship test. My teaching style is that I make up a lesson plan each week. I have my students do a combination of reading and writing and then they get to choose what they want to do at the end of the lesson if we have extra time.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have my Master's Degree in Psychology and I have tutored college students in English and Spanish. I have experience with the college application process: including essay writing, editing, networking, and individual career counseling. I helped my ESL student obtain her citizenship in English and I helped her with career counseling and resume prep.
I have been in the literacy volunteer program for about a year. I do enjoy teaching in this program. I have had three students so far. I have helped my students gain confidence in their reading and writing. For example I used the language experience: which I have the students talk about their day and I write it down on paper. We fix the mistakes together and I have the students take out the meaningful or difficult words they have problems with understanding. My students do enjoy this exercise. I would periodically administer tests in both reading and writing and both my students improved their scores after I tutored them. I helped my current student pass her citizenship test. We worked on her pronounciation, writing, and reading. I also do fun activities with my students to get them more active. For example, I played the card game war with my past student. When we declared war I had her say three sentences in English and I would say my sentences in Spanish. It was a good trade off for us. I helped her practice her English speaking skills and she helped me with my Spanish speaking skills.
