About Seth

Hi, I have been in education for over 15 years with this being my 12th year as a teacher. I have taught all levels, elementary, middle and high school, and all have provided me with different positive challenges when it comes to teaching the students. I am a Wellness Educator in a high school where my job requires me to teach various concepts that involve reading, math and science as it relates to the body and overall fitness. This teaching position has opened up doors for me in the tutoring field whether it is with students who are homebound or struggling with various school subjects.

I have abilities that stretch far beyond what my job entails. I have math skills in the areas of Pre-algebra, Algebra, Geometry and SAT. I have also tutored in Science and History which I also enjoy doing. As a physically active person, I enjoy working with people to improve their well-being. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and son and exercising at the gym and running road races.

What makes me an outstanding Math tutor is my ability to think outside the box to get a student to learn a concept. I find ways to use what interests them to relate the work to them.

What makes me an outstanding SAT Reading tutor is my ability to help students understand what they are reading and helping them understand the context clues in the examples.

I look forward to working with students who want to learn. Just because a student is struggling does not mean he or she cannot do the work. I can help you relate to it to make it easier to understand.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

American History is something I have always been interested in. I have been on numerous class trips to Washington D.C., Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Philadelphia to help students learn about how the United States has become what it is today. I have also tutored numerous students through my school in this topic and have had quite a bit of success with these students.

Anatomy

As a Wellness Education Teacher, I teach about numerous body systems in order for my students to learn about their anatomy. I have a wealth of experience with this from teaching my students in the Wellness Center and assessing their overall fitness. This experience comes from many years and classes on the topic.

Basketball

Basketball is my favorite sport to play. I have been playing for over 25 years now and coach it for my school's Unified Sports program and in a town league in West Hartford. I understand what goes into playing solid defense and skills to help improve someone's offensive skills.

Bodybuilding

I have been working with weights for the past 20 years and am familiar with the safety aspect of weight training. I am capable of teaching people of all ages how to build their muscles properly and with good form and technique. As a Wellness Education teacher, I teach my students about bodybuilding and how to achieve the results they desire.

Elementary Math

Elementary Math is something that comes naturally even when I was a young kid. My goal is for every student I work with to feel the same way. I have worked with numerous students who struggle with Math, whether it is through my school's homebound program or students in my own classes that need help.

Fitness

As a High School Wellness Education Teacher I teach students about fitness and assess their progress as my job. My goal is for my students to make improvements in their overall fitness and lifestyle as the semester goes on. This is a subject that I have taught to grades K-12 for over 12 years.

Geography

I love Geography because I love to learn about the world. I have always been adept at knowing capitals and countries on a map. I also know quite a bit about the characteristics of many states and countries. I have tutored numerous students in different History classes that required them to learn how to read a map properly.

Geometry

Geometry is a subject that involves spatial awareness along with reasoning skills. This a combination of skills I possess that allow me to teach the subject. I also find many interesting ways to get students to relate to the content being taught.

Nutrition

Teaching Nutrition is part of my job as a Wellness Education Teacher. It is so important to learn how eat properly and take in quality calories to achieve optimum health. I teach students who are athletes and many who are not and I instruct students based on their needs. I have a wealth of resources that help people learn about the topic.

Physical Science

Science has always been a subject that has interested me. I want to share that interest with other students. My teaching position involves using various scientific concepts to explain what is happening in nature and why their bodies do what they do.

Prealgebra

Throughout my life Math has been a strength of mine. Prealgebra concepts and skills are the building blocks for high school Math classes. I am very confident in my skills to help students achieve at a high level in this subject.

SAT Reading

I have tutored numerous students for the SAT. I not only go over content but test taking strategies to allow them to increase their score. I take a lot of pride in tutoring students for a test that could help determine their future.

Tennis

Tennis is a lifetime sport that all people can learn. I teach it to high school students and many of them have gone on to be successful on the school's tennis team. I enjoy playing recreationally as part of my exercise regimen.
