I have used Visual Basic both in school and in industry. In school, I completed multiple courses involving the fundamentals of Visual Basic, mainly with respect to its applications in Excel. In industry, I have used Visual Basic on several projects in order to create interactive databases in Microsoft Access, as well as interactive spreadsheets and tools in Excel. I have solidified my own working understanding of Visual Basic over time by continuing to experiment with various applications, and also by teaching fellow students and coworker how to most effectively use the functionality that it provides.
I am very experienced with Calculus, both from a theoretical standpoint and from a practical standpoint. I excelled in many Calculus courses in college, including Calculus 1-3, Real Analysis, and Vector Calculus. I also have much experience applying calculus to practical applications in Engineering, Physics, and other natural sciences, as this is a large part of my daily work in my current job in industry. I am very passionate about the beauty and applications of calculus, and I am eager to help others understand the subject, as well as its importance.
I excelled in the two Physics courses I completed during my undergraduate career, and I also have substantial experience solving complex engineering problems using principles and concepts from Physics. I use Physics on a daily basis in my job as an Electro-Mechanical Troubleshooting Engineer, and I greatly enjoy helping others to understand fundamental concepts with respect to natural laws. In addition to completing a discrete math course during my undergraduate career, I also use many of the principles of discrete mathematics in my current position, as much of my work involves writing computer programs and generalizing concepts. I also spent a lot of time participating in mathematical competitions and brainstorming/study sessions during school that focused on the kind of rigorous proof structure and logical thinking that is so important in discrete mathematics. As this course is often the first rigorous proof course that students take, I understand that some students have yet to develop the mathematical maturity that is required to fully understand the material. I am understanding of the different ability levels that students may have when taking this course, and I have spent a lot of time developing and presenting methods of problem solving on this topic to various audiences in my time tutoring, studying, and working in industry.
I have significant experience with Linear Algebra in multiple ways. First, I excelled in the Linear Algebra course that I completed during my Undergraduate education, and I also tutored several students during my time tutoring both groups and individuals in the school's Learning Center. Second, I have experience working with the tools that Linear Algebra provides in a real industry setting. My current job often requires me to apply the principles of Linear Algebra to practical situations in order to solve real-life problems. Thus, I believe my strong theoretical foundation, along with my experience tutoring the subject, as well as my experience applying the subject in my everyday life make me an ideal person to tutor Linear Algebra in a private setting.
In pursuing my Mathematics degree in college, I excelled in many course involving rigorous mathematical proofs and logical reasoning. Among these courses are Philosophy of Logic, Symbolic Logic, Discrete Math, Real Analysis, Abstract Algebra, and Hyperbolic Geometry. I also achieved scores greater than average on the Putnam Mathematical Competition for several years, which is known to be an exceptionally difficult exam which relies heavily on the application of symbolic logic and sound reasoning. Additionally, I have tutored 200+ hours in various mathematics courses, often focusing on providing students with the logical tools they need to reason through content on their own.
