I am a Language Skills teacher at a private school in Washington, CT. For over 14 years I have worked one-on-one with students ranging from third grade through high school. My expertise is working with children with learning differences such as dyslexia. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham, a program geared to help students who face learning and reading challenges. This fun and engaging phonetic program is particularly helpful to those who struggle with reading, spelling and fluency. Some of my students, however, have no specific learning disadvantages, yet their parents opted for individual instruction for a variety of reasons. Study skills, writing skills, reading comprehension and vocabulary development are often requested. Academic support is also routinely offered while integrating the above skills. I feel strongly that students respond best when their academic requirements are incorporated during our time together. This helps create a sense of purpose and productivity. Conversely, those students who are seeking help during the summer break can benefit through the Orton-Gillingham method and other strategies.

I love to teach, and both my students and their parents have often expressed their appreciation to me. With humor, creative teaching strategies and years of experience, I have often helped my students find success. Working one-on-one also creates an environment that is supportive and nurturing.
