About Patricia

I am a mom and teacher who loves working with children! I graduated from Quinnipiac University in 2012 with my Master's Degree in Elementary Education and I currently hold an Initial Teacher Certification in the state of CT. I have taught Preschool, Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade. I also have spent time working in educational environments with students of older ages up through sixth grade. My teaching experience includes both public and private settings, and my students have been successful both in the classroom and on standardized tests.

It is my goal to help your child reach his or her fullest academic potential in any area of need. I believe in teaching students concepts and skills, and then following that initial introduction to any given concept with review and practice that is meaningful, effective, and engaging. I believe that, as an educator, it is my job to provide your child with the exposure and practice that will allow him or her to flourish academically.

I look forward to helping your child reach his or her highest academic potential!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I currently work at a Christian school in CT and teach the Bible as a subject. My students are taught Bible stories and learn Bible songs. We also memorize various passages of scripture. I am a Christian and as such consider myself to be a student of God's Word.

Elementary (K-6th)

I obtained my Master's degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from Quinnipiac University. I also hold my Certification for grades K-6 in the state of Connecticut. My most direct experience has been working with students from the Preschool level to the First Grade level, but I do have other experience working with students in grades 2-6.

Handwriting

I obtained my Master's degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from Quinnipiac University. I also hold my Certification for grades K-6 in the state of Connecticut. I have trained students at the Preschool, Kindergarten, and First Grade levels in developing fine motor skills, practicing a proper grip, and continually refining letter formation. As a First Grade teacher, I taught Handwriting as a subject. Students spent the first half of the school year reviewing and practicing proper letter formation. During the second half of the school year we began to focus on proper spacing, line usage, neatness, and readability as well.

Phonics

I obtained my Master's degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from Quinnipiac University. I also hold my Certification for grades K-6 in the state of Connecticut. I have multiple years experience teaching letter sound relationships and phonics skills to Preschool, Kindergarten, and First Grade students. My experience has been gained in both public and private school environments. I have worked with students to not just develop a body of knowledge in Phonics, but to then also apply that knowledge to reading texts of varying degrees of difficulty. I believe Phonics, when taught correctly and practiced in a variety of ways, can be fun and meaningful for the student!

Study Skills

I obtained my Master's degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from Quinnipiac University. I also hold my Certification for grades K-6 in the state of Connecticut. Throughout my high school and college education, I worked on developing strong study skills. I found that it was important to use time before a test to deepen one's knowledge within and across content areas. When connections between relevant information are made, the content becomes easier to recall. I believe in organizing and reviewing material in such a way that it is easier for the learner to remember it for the test, as well as for future applications of that information.
