About Jamie

Since I can remember, biology, anatomy, and medicine has been all I wanted to learn about. This was influenced in part by growing up on an ambulance. My father and grandfather founded the EMT service in our hometown and often, I would ride with them, soaking up every experience. This led me to become the youngest licensed EMT in the State at 16. My love of the biological sciences never lessened, but rather grew with each book I read. This continued through high school where I was the only student allowed to student-teach the Comparative and Human Anatomy to my peers. I found an interest in the area of Mortuary Science and Embalming, which I perused in college and graduated with a degree in Mortuary Science and Anatomy Education from Lynn University in Florida.

During my extremely successful career which followed I never stopped expanding my biological and anatomical studies. I found myself being called out to other funeral homes to handle "extreme" cases of disease and trauma and prepare them for viewing. As my status of a reconstructive specialist grew, I began conducting seminars to professionals for continuing credits as well as taking on several apprentices as well.
My experience has given me the privilege of being asked to assist the pathologists in the Broward County Medical Examiners Office in Florida, performing autopsies and working investigations. I was asked to train with the New England Organ Bank to assist with organ and tissue harvesting, eye enucleation and long bone recovery. I also had the privilege to act as a field tester for the Dodge Chemical Co which was on the front line of research and production of new chemicals and techniques. This was all happening simultaneous as I worked and managed 3 funeral homes, and scheduled for 15 firms.
Unfortunately, a freak accident left me with 2 herniated discs in my lower back which led to a fusion and a recent diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis which ends my hands on clinical work. I was offered a tutor position at Capitol Community College for biography, human biology, anatomy & physiology, microbiology, emt and paramedic courses.
I have found that I have a unique ability to make complicated concepts easier to understand by explaining things in a logical, real world way. Needless to say, I have become the most requested tutor at the school. I enjoy what I am doing and would love to help out others.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biology

My education in Biology has been an ongoing passion since I can remember. I have always had the fortunate ability to understand and retain information dealing with the life sciences such as Biology, Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology. I have extensive hands-on experience in Emergency Medical Care, Forensic and Pathology Labs along with Embalming and specialized in Restorative Art. This experience led me to have several apprentices which I trained, along with providing continuing education seminars for other embalming professionals over my 17 year career in that line of business.

I have over 4 years of tutoring experience, working for Capital Community College and independently. Capital has a large nursing program which provides me with many students needing help. I currently tutor general biology, human biology, anatomy & physiology I and II, Microbiology, Emergency Medical Tech, Paramedic, general nursing skills, and teaching study skills using critical and applied comprehension.

I have found that my ability to explain complex and difficult concepts in a way that not only allows the students to grasp the information but actually enjoy a once feared world. Please send me any questions you may have and I look forward to helping!

Public Speaking

During my career as a funeral director and embalmer, I conducted specific continuing education for licensed Funeral Directors and Embalmers throughout Connecticut, and training for numerous interns under my direct supervision. I coordinated several lectures with tours of our facilities for the local high schools. I spoke to psychology, sociology, thanatology and death and dying classes. These open forums were the highlight for many of the students, and a favorite among the teachers.

Phenomenal!

Jamie is a great tutor who really enjoys what he does! He is very sweet and down to earth, not your "typical" tutor, but he is an amazing one. Being a student it is hard to learn from somebody who is dry and boring and Jamie is far from that. He makes his lessons enjoyable and upbeat and always adds little fun facts that help you remember things. He utilizes google drive in which he will add works
