Believe it or not, I make math fun! I know, that is a stretch, but if you hire me, you'll see. I carry this attitude with any subject I teach, even Algebra and Geometry! Education should be fun and I can always get some smiles and laughs out of my students! I also truly believe every student is smart and gifted, it just takes the right educator to help them see and believe it themselves.
I am a licensed mathematics teacher with a Master's in Education. I have about 6 full academic years of experience educating students of all ages through a variety of schools and private homes. Presently I tutor students with special needs at Western Connecticut State University as their Math Specialist and I private tutor near Central Connecticut as "Tutor Man"!
Through WyzAnt and other tutoring advertising over the past three years I have helped over 60 students reach amazing heights. One of my students earned a score of 2150 on his SAT, and another aced her geometry final when A's on tests had previously eluded her. A student who normally earns D's and C's on tests started earned B's and A's, and a student aiming for the nursing college program aced her placement exam and thus tested out of several college math courses. There are tons more stories I have to share, just ask!
Before my time with WyzAnt — as an AmeriCorps member and director of tutors at a high school in Massachusetts — I tutored over 100 students for more than 1,000 hours of tutoring. Before that, I educated students in many places including Westfield State University, at local high schools, and during the summers with Upward Bound.
During my teaching experience, I learned that while I may have a gift at teaching in the traditional classroom setting, I did not feel like classroom teaching was for me. I decided I would much rather continue educating in a much smaller setting through tutoring. I truly believe education is at its finest when done in such a setting. My desire to help students who were at risk of being left behind carried me on and motivated me to search for a more alternative way to follow my dream in an education career, and this is it!
Know this — all of my students at the very least find more confidence working with me and will earn at least one letter grade higher if they work hard as instructed!
I am always willing to be flexible with scheduling to suit the needs of my clients. Let me know what your needs are and I will try to meet them!
I am only available for the summer. Come August 24th I will no longer be available. Believe it or not, I make math fun! I know, that is a stretch, but if you hire me, you'll see. I carry this attitude with any subject I teach, even Algebra and Geometry! Education… Read more

I am really glad I hired Adam to tutor Math to my 6th grader. Not only is my son doing well, but he looks forward to the tutoring sessions each week. It is as if Adam completely reinvents the process of learning Math by eliminating the "challenges", making it fun and exciting with a twist of adventure.
I absolutely wish there are more teachers like Adam around. He offers lots of positive reinforcements; emotional intelligence and adaptability; intuitive feedback gestures; incredible patience and an absolute love and passion for teaching.
They say some are "born gifted and others acquire it" – It is my pleasure to recommend Adam K. as a gifted instructor.
Thank you, Camille! I really enjoy helping your son explore new concepts and learning how to be excited by math. It is always a pleasure working with him!
Adam just has a knack for making learning easy! My son's grades have improved and his confidence is back! Thanks Adam!
Thank you! Your son is a pleasure to work with! I look forward to working with him more!
Adam has a way of taking the mystery out of math for my daughter. I truly feel my daughter benefits from his expertise!
Thank you for your kind words! I'll continue to try my best to help her discover math!
Adam has been an awesome tutor for my son. My son didn't think it was possible for him to understand algebra, but Adam has given him the confidence to enter his math class knowing he can. Adam is very patient and my son always looks forward to his lesson with him. We will continue to use Adam for as long as my son needs him. I can't thank him enough for giving my son confidence in his abilities. Thank you Adam, you are a great tutor!
Thank you for the great review, Sheila! Working with your son has been a blast! I am excited to be able to continue supporting him as he takes his College Algebra class. I can't wait until our next session!
I waited quite a while to write this review because I wanted to make sure that my feelings were true and I wasn't reacting to a moment. We reached out to Adam for help after my son had a pre calc professor in his freshman semester of college rip him to shreds and totally shake his self esteem and self confidence. After that course my son was not sure he wanted to return to college for his spring semester. After much coaxing he half heartedly agreed to allow us to get him a tutor. He was not thrilled with the entire idea but went along with it. I spoke with Adam via emails and he was very reassuring that he was sure he could help my son. I warned him that my son was not completely on board, but he told me not to worry, he would handle it. That was back in January, and we have been using Adam ever since. He helped rebuild my son's self confidence and earn a great grade in stats. This fall he will be tutoring my son in chemistry and who knows what else beyond that! My son is very fond of Adam, as well as I, and we are both very grateful to him. He is kind, patient and a FABULOUS tutor! I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to help their child succeed and feel good about themselves again. Thank you Adam!
Leanne, thank you so much for the very kind and touching review!
I enjoy working with your son very much and look forward to each and every lesson with him! It all started with Statistics, now it's Precalculus, and soon we'll tackle Chemistry. We'll get through this together no problem!
Thanks for all of your help this semester Adam! Our son has continued to build up his confidence with your help throughout the last few months and his grades have shown it. It's time to finally pull it all together and finish on a high note before some nice time off.
Not a problem, it was my pleasure! Thank you so much for the chance to work with him!
Let me know how the final goes! Best of luck to him!
Adam worked with my daughter to get her ready for a placement exam in college. His teaching techniques were awesome and my daughter was able to get over small hurdles. With Adam's help my daughter passed her math placement exam in college. I would recommend Adam to anybody, he was fantastic.
Thank you for the opportunity to work with your daughter, it was a pleasure helping her secure her place in her major! I wish her the best of luck in her college career!
Adam helped my son with SAT Math, Reading & writing. My son liked Adam's style of tutoring. My son got 2150 in SAT I. Adam brought my son up to speed with a couple of weeks. He is very dedicated and develops and follows a plan based on student's skill level. I would recommend Adam's tutoring to any student needing help in high school subjects as well as SATs. Thanks Adam for all your help.
Thank you very much! It was awesome tutoring such a great student. Colleges are going to love him!
Adam offers positive, helpful advice and is very encouraging. Even though our son is still struggling with pre-calculus (it's hard work!), his confidence is rising. Without Adam, it would have been a completely deflating experience. Instead, our son is learning how challenges present us with new opportunities.
Thank you Kate! I will continue to do my best to help him get through this class!
I have been working with Adam on preparing for the math part of the GRE exam. Before I began working with him I just assumed that math wasn't my thing. Adam has given me confidence in the fact that I know a lot more than I thought I did, and that I'm not bad at math after all! Adam is an upbeat, super positive, and always-smiling teacher. He makes math seem fun and easy. From the moment you begin working with him you can tell how passionate he is both for teaching and for math. This is truly demonstrated in how successful he is in bringing material across to the student. He works at the speed needed for the student, and adjusts pace whenever necessary. He is very patient, and always makes sure that the student is comfortable with a topic before moving on. Adam is excellent at explaining topics, and if a way something is being explained doesn't make sense to the student, he will come up with another creative way to explain it (and he won't rest until the student understands)! Just because you know math doesn't mean you can teach it, but Adam can truly do both very well. He is a gifted teacher, and he has an outstanding grasp of mathematics. I would definitely recommend Adam to anyone looking for a patient, caring, and enthusiastic tutor!
Thank you, Laura! It was an extreme pleasure tutoring you! Let me know when you're ready for more lessons!
I waited a couple of months to write a review since I wanted to be sure what I wrote was based on history and not an emotional response.
My son is a teenager who has tuned out his parents long ago. We've struggled with this kid who has the ability, but not the commitment, to succeed.
Adam has been an awesome resource - smart, personable, and patient - and has been someone who can communicate with him closer to his level. His sessions are non-threatening (in fact he makes every effort to communicate WITH the learner and not talk AT them) and my son, 16 years old and who apparently knows everything there is to know about everything, has a great deal of respect for him.
We've seen marked improvement. His grades have improved and his commitment to home work is far better than it was. The best thing? He'd rather confess his failure to complete his assignments to us (who can punish him) than to Adam who holds him to a more self-empowering standard. This perspective helps my son to understand that it's important to succeed, not for a particular person but for himself.
I have no doubt Adam could help anyone who has a need for support in their learning or study skills. He's not the cheapest tutor available but the results have been worth every penny so far, and he's a very intelligent guy. The best part of this is, my wife and I now have a resource who can absorb the stress of having an under-achieving student in the house. So, it's worked well for our son and it's been a great relief to our family. There is less stress when we have interventions in place and Adam is our very effective intervention.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I will continue to work my hardest for your son and help him achieve even higher!
Adam is a natural teacher. After the first tutoring session my son aced his test (algebra 2). My son who did not want a tutor -(we tried others - not through WyzAnt) now looks forward to Adam sessions. Adam also helps my son in Chemistry and Spanish 3. Add coming to us, can it get any better? Worth every penny.
I was so excited to hear that test went well, he deserved that grade so much! He is such a hard worker and a great person all around!
I had no idea you tried other tutors, thank you for making me feel awesome!
See you soon!
In three short meetings Adam has brought my daughter up to speed in her Pre-Calculus class. She is now confident in her skills and prepared for class. We will continue with Adam to help reinforce what she is learning in class and he is great for her individual questions.
Adam has been patient and fun for my daughter to work with. She is excited to work with Adam and finds their sessions very productive.
Thanks for all your help!
Thank you! I'm so glad she enjoys our sessions! I can't wait for our next session!
Adam is tutoring my son in AP Calculus BC. He is familiar with the material, prompt and prepared for each lesson. He instills confidence and encourages questions. He is extremely patient and intuitive, ensuring that his student fully understands each topic before moving on. I would highly recommend Adam as a math tutor.
Thank you for your kind words! I really enjoy tutoring your son and I can't wait to see him Tuesday. See you then!
My son is very happy working with Adam. He is an excellent tutor, very knowledgeable and capable tutor. He is always on time and he is very efficient. Since he started working with my son, I have seen a remarkable improvement in his algebra. I could not be more pleased. I do highly recommend him. Thank you Adam. I'm glad that I choose you as my son's tutor.
Thank you, Agatha! I can't wait to help your son improve further! I'll see you two later!
Although I haven't worked with Adam for very long, I am already very pleased with the strategic approach he has developed for success with my upcoming SAT test. Adam has taken a daunting standardized test and has developed a strategy for me that I’m confident will prove successful for me. I appreciate his sense of humor and ability to make the SAT more approachable. He is a perfect tutor for a somebody who is looking for a more relaxed environment and an educator who truly cares about his student’s success.
Thank you for your awesome feedback! It has and always will be a pleasure tutoring you! You have a great future ahead of you!
I definitely picked the right tutor!! He is awesome.
He had a great personality and loved Math. He
really got my kids excited about it. He took his time and was patient. They learned a lot in their first session and they can't wait for Adam to come back. I am very happy I found this website!
Thank you for your kind words! Your kids are great and I can't wait to teach them more!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
To tutor for the Math portion of the ACT, I would use past released test items as practice questions so the student could get accustomed to their wording and get comfortable with the testing format. We would discuss strategies such as how to guess effectively and pacing. My main goal other than to help the student understand the material better would be to help the student feel more confident so he or she can feel as comfortable as possible on the test day.
I have experience educating students with ADD/ADHD. The first two students I ever tutored while I was still in high school both had ADHD.
After that, in a more professional setting at multiple high schools and at Upward Bound's Summer Academy, I educated several students with these challenges.
Just like any other student, ADD/ADHD students just need an educator who is patient enough to learn their needs and the flexibility to roll with their rhythm.
I have taught and tutored Algebra I in several schools to a very diverse population of students of a multitude of backgrounds and abilities.
Algebra is my favorite math subject to educate students in and I always have a blast doing so. This usually results in my students having a decent time as well. Some of them actually smile and laugh. Yes, can you believe it?
Just like Algebra I, I have taught and tutored Algebra II in several schools to a very diverse population of students of a multitude of backgrounds and abilities.
The students I have tutored have experienced a huge boost in test grades and confidence!
Algebra is my favorite math subject to educate students in. In fact, I can all but guarantee my students will smile and laugh at least once per session while learning and gaining more confidence in algebra!
I have worked closely with students with Aspergers while teaching and tutoring. To me, these students just need an educator with the creativity to think of a project the student will truly love to engage in and use that as part of the lesson at hand. As long as the project promotes motivation in the student, then the lesson will be learned! For example, if the child was really into Origami but needed to learn 10 vocabulary words I would allow him or her to teach me a couple of foldings per word he or she spelled/defined correctly. The best part is that this could be as fun for the tutor as it is for the student!
I would love the opportunity to help a student prepare for the test that determines armed services eligibility!
To tutor for this I would utilize sample test questions to help the student get comfortable with the test format and question wording. I would also show the student how the test is scored and using that information the student and I would discuss and practice test taking strategies to optimize scores.
While working at Western Connecticut State University's disability office (named AccessAbility Services), I worked with several students on the Spectrum and I have enjoyed working with each of them!
Biology is a fun topic that is close to my heart. For a time, I was thinking of being a eye doctor. I took a couple of biology courses in college, and they were some of my favorite classes.
I have tutored countless students in Biology. I helped students write lab reports, discuss sections in the textbook, and think critically about many aspects of the science.
I taught a Maple Program Calculus lab at WPI for a semester. This was a very rewarding experience that taught me how to explain Calculus more casually so students of any ability can learn to grasp even the most daunting of topics.
I have also tutored Calculus 1 and 2 extensively with several students, and I love it. Calculus is super powerful and it is driving many developments in our world and I love to share this excitement with my students as I teach them this wonderful subject!
I have tutored several students through my Director of Tutors position in MA two years ago and last year as an Academic Coach.
The trick to understanding chemistry is to understand the mathematical formulas behind all the topics within the subject. This combined with my expertise in study skills I can help any chemistry student feel more confident in their studies and earn higher test scores!
Having worked at Upward Bound, a college preparatory program for low income first generation students, for four summers I feel confident in counseling students on their college endeavors. I know a myriad of ways to effectively search information about colleges and anything I need more information on I can easily find out using my network of past colleagues including several academic advisors.
I have tutored elementary students in a variety of settings through my college education courses.
I have been teaching and tutoring mathematics for five years to a variety of ages.
I tutored elementary math to several students, and I must say I love teaching children! They truly find wonder in all aspects of academics if the material is presented in an exciting way. I always strive to make that wonder shine through with every lesson I give!
While I was in charge of a academic success/tutoring center in a high school, I tutored countless ESL/ESOL students. While discussing the differences in our native languages we also discussed differences in our home cultures which was fascinating and thus a very rewarding experience. I would love the opportunity to help more students learn English!
In the same setting I also worked closely with the school's ESL coordinator and lead teacher. Together we advocated for the ESL students and helped many teachers educate this population of students more effectively.
I have taught and tutored Geometry in several schools to a very diverse population of students of a multitude of backgrounds and abilities. Geometry was the first subject I ever taught and as such it could be argued that I learned the most about teaching from teaching this subject. I learned to be a very flexible teacher, ready to explain topics in a myriad of ways so that a student of any ability can grasp the material.
The students I have tutored have earned higher test grades and confidence. For example I helped a D student start to earn As and Bs! Another I helped aced her final!
Through my extensive experience tutoring for the English portion of the SAT I have become very skilled at fixing and improving the grammar of my students! English is a very complex language and I welcome more opportunities to help students master this beautiful language!
Having gone to graduate school after passing the GREs, I understand the test and its demands. I would love to help someone prepare for it!
For many of my math graduate courses I depended on Microsoft Excel to utilize complicated formulas, form arguments for my longest papers, and organize my work. Being a licensed teacher, I am sure that I can help impart what I've learned onto students!
Throughout college, I used PowerPoint several times to perform presentations; in teaching, I used it to play Who Wants To Be A Millionaire; and recently, I used it personally to make business cards. I know how to use PowerPoint to do many things and I welcome the opportunity to teach a student how to be just as versatile with the program!
Throughout high school and college, I have written countless papers on Microsoft Word. I have experienced the evolution of this software and I understand how multiple versions of it work all the way from Windows 95 to the present. Being a teacher, I am fully confident in my ability to convey my knowledge onto a student who wishes to learn more about this amazing piece of software!
I have experience tutoring Prealgebra students who were very behind in their math skills. Despite feeling lost and a harboring a huge hate for math, I have found ways to turn that around and get them excited for it! I helped them forge a strong algebraic foundation filled with skills that will translate to the later Algebra I and Algebra II subjects!
I have tutored Precalculus before and it is one of my favorite subjects. This is when math starts to get powerful, in my eyes, and I would love the chance to help even more students get excited about it too.
I have helped students earn much higher grades on tests! For instance I have helped a student start earning As on her tests when before she would make several small mistakes. It's all about preparation and equipping the right attitude!
I have tutored many students in probability before and I would love the chance to do so again.
Probability can be a difficult subject. In high school probability often threw me for a loop, but I came out stronger mathematically because of the hard work I had to put into it. I know I can help a student feel more confident in this subject and I would love the chance! (Pun definitely intended!)
For four summers I taught a seminar to help students prepare for the math portion of the SAT.
To tutor for PSATs, I would use practice tests and help the student improve his or her scores. I would also teach the student all about the PSAT and SAT, how they are scored, when to guess and when to skip the question, and how to best prepare for the tests.
For four summers, I taught a seminar to help students prepare for the math portion of the SAT. During those seminars, visitors from the Princeton Review taught me the same tricks they teach their students to reach the highest score possible. So, I know all the best test taking strategies!
To tutor for the Math portion of the SAT, I would use past released test items as practice questions so the student could get accustomed to their wording and get comfortable with the testing format in addition to reviewing tested material and better understanding it. We would discuss strategies such as how and when to guess effectively and pacing. We would also discuss how these strategies best fit in with how the individual student tests. Through this, my main would be to increase a student's confidence so he or she can feel as comfortable as possible on the test day.
During the SAT prep seminars I taught in the past, visitors from the Princeton Review taught me the same tricks they teach their students to reach the highest score possible. So, I know all the best test taking strategies!
To tutor for the reading portion of the SAT, I would use past released test items as practice questions so the student could get accustomed to their wording and get comfortable with the testing format. We would discuss strategies such as how and when to guess effectively and pacing. We would also discuss how best these strategies fit in with how the individual student tests. Through this, my main goal would be to increase a student's confidence so he or she can feel as comfortable as possible on the test day.
For more than one year I have educated students with disabilities at Western Connecticut State University's disability office named AccessAbility Services. There I am the Math Specialist and Assistive Technology Specialist. I have worked with students with Learning Disabilities, Low Vision, and many other challenges. I am familiar with many of the difficulties students with disabilities face and enjoy helping them access a more equitable education!
I am a huge fan of studying via silly songs, funny images, etc. Our brains recall things more easily when they are made memorable, and this is how I became good at spelling in school. When studying, in addition to daily repetition before the day of the spelling test, I'd come up with fun ways to remember spellings. Now, as a teacher, I'd love the chance to teach a student how to do the same!
I am a licensed Mathematics Teacher with a Master's In Education. In every class I have taught, assisted, or tutored I have showed the students a multitude of methods to study effectively.
I also teach my students about the "Forgetting Curve." This helps students understand that with how the brain works naturally, one needs to review material regularly otherwise the brain deems the information not important and forgets it.
I have played Table Tennis since I was six years old. My step father taught me all he knew and from there I played very competitively with all my friends while growing up. I've also played in a few local tournaments and always won at least a couple of matches.
Using my Masters in Educaton and love of the Ping Pong, I welcome the chance to teach a player how to serve, spin, and spike!
I have tutored many students in Trigonometry. I look forward to the challenge of doing so again!
Trigonometry can be a tricky math subject. In fact, when I was in high school Trigonometry was very challenging for me. But, I rose above that challenge with hard work and dedication. I would love more students in this subject so I can help them do the same! When students fight through hard subjects such as this, that is when their brains grow the most!
My experience tutoring several SAT students on the English portion of the test has given me a robust vocabulary. This in addition to the innumerable papers I have written throughout my extensive education where I always challenged myself to find and use at least one new word on each and make the word my own for future use. All of this combined with my teaching proficiency and you have a vocabulary teacher! I’d love the chance to help more students’ vocabulary via studying for the SATs and outside of it!
