I highly recommend Joe. He is knowledgeable and patient and got along very well with my son. He provided in depth writing instruction and feedback on the assignments that were essential to improving my sons writing skills.
This guy really knows his stuff. While we were working on this poem "My True Love Hath My Heart" he knows just what to say to me just so I can get clarity on the poem's subject. I walked out a much more enlightened student! Thanks for all your help Joe!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
A PhD in English, I have worked with students on analysis of literary works and development of theses and the arguments to support them. My focus is to help my students see how a poem or story relates to their own experience and so encourage them to develop their own responses to the work.
Joe holds a Ph.D. in English language and literature, and has taught and tutored literature surveys and literary analysis.
As a teacher, professional editor, and public/media relations manager, I offer extensive experience in writing across a range of forms – speeches, releases, letters, advertising copy, proposals – for diverse audiences. As a writing teacher, I taught my students to break down specific writing assignments and to determine which tools were best suited to their writing goals.
