About Thomas

What marks a great teacher, one that stands out from the crowd? Certainly, any teacher must be knowledgeable in the subjects they teach, but more than that a great teacher possesses the ability to tailor their lessons and their very approach to fit their students. It requires the ability to find and match each student's pace and anticipate their needs and preferences. That is to say, in order for an educator to avoid becoming just another face in the academic crowd is to be sure that no student is just another face, either. Now, add to that rates lower than most of today's tutors, and you have a value that is not only hard to beat, but often hard to find in the first place. That is precisely what I propose to deliver to you.
My name is Tom. I majored in both Philosophy and English for my BA, although my knowledge and experience extend far beyond those two subjects. For one, I also am an avid science lecturer and educator, stemming from a passion for Chemistry and Physics that I've had since earliest childhood. As far back as I can remember, I have loved learning and teaching, and it's that enthusiasm that has helped fuel my success in helping others find THEIR success.
I know that today's students need a direct and comprehensive educational experience at the lowest price possible. Instead of forcing you to sacrifice quality in order to find affordability in your tutoring service, I keep my rate what it is because I know that it will keep students coming to me time and again, and I will be able to reach a market unattainable by others whose rates bear no reflection of understanding the tough economic times most people--especially students--find themselves in.
Get in touch with me today and I promise you that I will work diligently in order to give you everything you need and more. I look forward to our shared success.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have studied mathematics fairly intently, due mostly to my love of science and the necessity of having a mathematical background for any practical scientific pursuits. I consistently find ways to present material to my students in such a way that they fully grasp the concepts, and although math can seem daunting at first to those not so inclined towards it, I can help put you quickly at ease.

Chemistry

I have had a passion for science since early childhood, and this has only grown with time, I have started a business with chemistry, in fact, where I teach people of all ages chemistry, help them choose specific elements for their own home labs and chemistry sets (for hobbyists, those being home-schooled, and college students), and also do in depth demonstrations for fun and educational purposes. I learned much in school and through self-education, and have taught chemistry for years as a tutor.

English

Easily one of my strongest suits, I have taken many courses in literature and have, through these courses and many others, had time to hone my skills in writing to a fine edge. I am confident that I can help pass on my knowledge and enjoyment of the work to most any student I encounter. Please feel free to inquire about any details that may concern you.

GED

Having knowledge in a wide variety of subjects, I am happy to help any student endeavoring to get their GED put all of the coursework into perspective and organize it for practical application. If there are any concerns or questions, please feel free to inquire.

Government & Politics

Though many people may go without thinking of it, the political arena shapes the world around us and as such deserves careful analysis by discerning students that wish to study it. A main goal of my own is to work in political philosophy, and so I have given careful attention to political theory and its impact on nations and individuals alike. If you wish to receive extra help and attention in this area, or if you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact me.

Literature

Literature is easily one of my most studied and enjoyed subjects, and I find it a pleasure to help others who require extra attention in this area. Though classroom settings can often sweep students along to stay on track, this all too often leaves the student without a real appreciation for what it is they are reading and what its value is. If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to inquire.

Philosophy

Being one of my most worked subjects, as well as the one I plan to devote my entire career to, I am well-versed in many philosophical ideas, and would love to lend work with anyone that needs a little extra help. Having studied so much philosophy, I surely understand that it can sometimes be quite overwhelming, particularly for those who are yet unfamiliar with the great majority of it. With that in mind, my goal is always to translate the most difficult texts and concepts into a form more easily digestible for the individual student. If there are concerns or questions, please feel free to inquire.

SAT Math

I have seen many students over the years that have needed help in areas pertaining to standardized tests, but the SATs are certainly the most prevalent. I find that many students try to cram information in late in the game, often relying on rote memorization from practice tests. Instead, my methods of tutoring aim to take the pressure off and help students to understand the fundamentals and their connections to previous coursework to relax and carry them through to success. They say there's no substitute for experience and in this area I have plenty.

Writing

The importance of writing cannot be stressed enough, particularly as one builds towards or works through college. No matter what subject one pursues, you can be sure that it will, at some point, require a set of skills in this area. One of the greatest tools that anyone can possess is the ability to communicate clearly and concisely through their writing, and it is this ability that I spent years cultivating, and now hope to pass along to any student that wishes to take advantage of my knowledge. Should there be any concerns or questions, please feel free to inquire about them.
