As a qualified elementary school tutor I believe I would be highly beneficial to your child's educational growth. I have a Bachelor's Degree of Arts in Liberal Studies-Teacher Licensure, and a Provisional Educator Certificate for elementary education in Connecticut. I believe it is my skills and abilities that set me apart from other applicants. My skills have been refined through my teaching experiences, challenges, and successes.
Upon graduating in 2010, I started my first full time position as an Infant Building teacher at a private preschool in Mystic. This was a very challenging environment. My classroom of eight 1-2 year-olds was very different from the 1st grade classroom I left behind during my student teaching. In addition to meeting their developmentally-specific educational needs, such as creating a highly stimulating language environment, I also catered to the children's needs of daily living such as feeding, hygiene, and socialization. I gained practical experience in decoding the complicated language of infants, and wiped ever-runny noses. However, I began to feel I was stagnating in this position, due to outgrowing what had once challenged me. I am also a person with great ambition who envisioned myself in an environment in which I could reach out to a greater number of diverse students.
It was my work ethic, dependability, and communication with parents and other faculty that engendered my next opportunity. As an early childhood educator, I learned that consistent and open home/school communication is fundamental to facilitating a child's learning and allowing it to reach its greatest potential. The parent and teacher are the child's two most powerful daily influences. The two must integrate their approach and tailor it to the individual child for academic success. It is my desire as a teacher that parents and guardians feel that they may come to me with any concern, large or small, as each is meaningful to the child. This core belief in positive communication helps students, parents and colleagues perceive me as an available and approachable teacher.
While I continued to progress professionally to higher learning levels at the private school, eventually the challenges dwindled. I knew that it was time to move on to my next professional challenge. As a building substitute at Ledyard Elementary School, I learned swiftly that pronounced classroom management skills can ensure positive student behavior, on-task work habits, and an overall sense of tranquility within the work environment. I set myself apart from similar educators with my effective discipline skills and quiet and encouraging demeanor. I establish a learning climate that is structured, yet flexible. I fixate expectations immediately. These areas helped me obtain full time teaching positions in Ledyard, and more currently Groton Public Schools.
I believe that my skills and positive, friendly demeanor are assets when it comes to facilitating learning. I look forward to becoming a part of your child's educational journey. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a Provisional Certificate in Elementary Education. In addition, I am a Elementary School Teacher, currently in my 4th year of teaching. I have completed TEAM, and have experience in teaching 2nd and 5th grade.
