About Philip

My name is Phil. I am a graduate student looking to make some extra money tutoring students after school. I think that I am the perfect person to help students in Psychology, History, and other Social Studies. I am currently student teaching as an 8th grade Social Studies teacher where I am responsible for developing lessons that align with the curriculum as well as the Connecticut Social Studies Standards. Therefore I am not only familiar with not only the content that students are covering in school on a firsthand basis but also the content areas with which students are covering. Give me a call. I can guarantee that I can help to increase your understanding in Social Studies and History and boost your grade!

While in college I minored in International Studies where themes revolved around and ran parallel to those those found in the field of Anthropology.

For the past two years I have worked as a paraprofessional at in the Greenwich public school system and have loved every minute of it. Currently I am in the final phase of my certification as a secondary level social studies teacher. This not only gives me firsthand experience with what students are currently covering in school but my schedule allows me the flexibility to meet with them outside school hours.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

In college while studying Psychology, I minored in International Studies. Courses of study included those in Anthropology, Ancient History, World Religions, and Indigenous Cultures.

Social Studies

I am currently finishing my Masters in Teaching, focusing in social studies. As a student teacher I am not only responsible for teaching courses in social studies but in designing lesson and unit plans. I believe that doing so not only forces me to exercise my understanding of the subject matter but familiarizes me with the standards of the Common Core Curriculum.
