I have been a communications specialist for most of my adult life. I was a journalist for many years, most of them with The Hartford Courant. I held many of the newspaper's most prominent writing and editing positions: bureau chief, legislative reporter, chief political reporter, editorial writer and political columnist. I am adept at both objective and opinion writing styles. I won numerous awards for my work.
After I left The Courant, I formed a communications consulting firm, which I still own. I temporarily suspended it while I worked in the communications office of Trinity College in Hartford, one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the country. I dealt with administrators, faculty and students and wrote and edited press releases as well as stories and profiles for the college's website. I helped students with their theses and also taught opinion writing.
When I left Trinity College, I restarted my communications consulting firm. I am an excellent writer, editor and proofreader. I am also a proficient tutor and am currently helping a relative of mine, who is not a native English speaker, adjust to her classes at a local community college. I am proud to say she is doing very well. I would very much like the opportunity to pass along the knowledge that I have acquired over the course of my career. I would also add that thoroughness and patience are two of my strengths.
Please allow me to assist you or someone you know. You won't regret it. I have been a communications specialist for most of my adult life. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As I mentioned, I have edited and proofread manuscripts and dissertations. I worked for seven years at Trinity College, where I also used my proofreading skills on a daily basis.
Prior to that, I was employed by The Hartford Courant. I was a bureau chief, legislative reporter, chief political reporter, editorial writer and political columnist. In every job, I used my editing and proofreading skills.
Most recently, I proofread a manuscript for a theater arts professor at the University of Connecticut. She gave me an excellent review. The reason that you won't see it as a "testimonial" is because I got that job through a company called Thumbtack.
As I said, I've been a professional writer and editor my entire adult life. I've also taught a young Spanish-speaking woman to speak, read and write English. She's now enrolled in college.
I have been a professional writer for about 35 years. I have been a journalist, a communications consultant and the director of media relations at Trinity College. I have written stories, profiles, press releases, reports, etc. I have won numerous awards for my writing. I am known for my clear and lucid writing.
I have also taught people whose first language is not English to write.
