I am a certified teacher in the state of Connecticut, with qualifications to teach history, business, English, and special education, and experience teaching and tutoring many additional subjects. I have taught at nearly all levels, from elementary school to advanced college courses, and I also have taught in individual and classroom settings. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have an educational background in teaching students with special needs, including ADD and ADHD. I am a certified special education teacher in the state of Connecticut, having completed coursework for my certification at Central Connecticut State University. I also have taught as a classroom teacher and individual tutor in public and private schools for the past ten years. My tutoring methods for students with ADD and ADHD include help with organization and devising study plans and strategies, maintaining schedules for completing assignments, and assistance with individual subjects.

Algebra 1

I am a certified teacher in Connecticut, with endorsements to teach five different subject areas. In the specific area of Math, I have taught classes based at the intermediate, secondary, and introductory college levels. Many students have had greater success with my instruction than in their previous math classes, and have explained that they are able to follow my clear explanations, all in clear, simple English, with greater ease than they ever did with other teachers.

ASVAB

I am familiar with the ASVAB test and have helped a number of young adults with military aspirations prepare for it. Based on my experience, I probably can help you approach the test with less anxiety, and I may be able to improve your score.

Autism

I have an educational background in teaching autistic students. I am a certified special education teacher in the state of Connecticut, having completed coursework for my certification at Central Connecticut State University, and also certified and qualified to teach history, business, and English. I also have taught as a classroom teacher and individual tutor in public and private schools for the past ten years. Dyslexia

I have an educational background in teaching students with special needs, including dyslexia. I am a certified special education teacher in the state of Connecticut, having completed coursework for my certification at Central Connecticut State University. I also have taught as a classroom teacher and individual tutor in public and private schools for the past ten years. My tutoring methods for dyslexic students include help with reading and vocabulary, devising study plans and strategies, maintaining schedules for completing assignments, and assistance in managing reading loads for individual subjects.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified public school teacher in the state of Connecticut, with a credential to teach special education to students from kindergarten through the 12th grade. I also have subject area endorsements in Social Studies and Business, and am highly qualified in English and language arts. I have taught in a classroom setting, and as an individual tutor, for private and public educational organizations throughout the state. I have used a variety of instructional methods to teach reading and math, depending on the learning needs and styles of my students.

English

I am an experienced teacher of English, having taught reading, writing, and speaking to nearly all age groups and levels of students. In particular, I have a wide background in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL or TESOL) to native speakers of other languages, including new American citizens and immigrants.

ESL/ESOL

I am experienced in teaching ESL to new Americans and English language learners. I have taught ESL at Stratford High School for two years and am certified in TESOL for adults. I also have taught the English language overseas.

General Computer

I have taught college-level courses in computer applications, and helped many students improve their familiarity with the computer programs needed for everyday work and life.

Grammar

I am an experienced teacher and tutor, and I have an extensive background in teaching English and writing to adult learners.

GRE

I am an experienced teacher and tutor, and have an extensive background in helping young adults prepare for important entrance exams and standardized tests. When I took the GRE, I scored in the 700s in each section

Literature

I am a certified teacher and have taught the subjects of English, writing, and modern literature at the high school and college levels. My students have found that I'm able to assist them in understanding the material and guide them through assignments in a very helpful way. I am patient and experienced in helping even reluctant readers complete their assigned texts.

Praxis

I am qualified to teach the Praxis on the basis of my scores on multiple Praxis I and Praxis II exams. On each test, I passed with distinction and scored above the 95th percentile. In addition, I am a certified general education and special education teacher in the state of Connecticut, and am completely conversant with the content of the Praxis I exam.

Prealgebra

I have taught math in numerous settings, both in classroom situations and at the individual level. Students have found me helpful and easy to work with, and I have improved their understanding of math.

Reading

Background in Wilson Reading System and Lindamood-Bell programs ("Visualizing and Verbalizing"), as well as certification and experience in teaching the English language, Special Education, and several additional subject areas.

Russian

I have completed four years of study of the Russian language at Columbia University and Yale University. I also have studied the Russian language in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia, for a total of 1.5 years, with a portion of that study taking place at Moscow State University. I have experience in tutoring and instructing the Russian language.

SAT Math

I am an experienced teacher in Math, and have scored a total of 2200 out of 2400 the last time that I took the SAT for practice.

SAT Reading

I have achieved a perfect score of 800 in the reading portion of the SAT test, and have helped numerous students improve their scores in this area. I also have taught English at the high school, community college, and adult education levels. I am a certified teacher with qualifications in several different subject areas.

SAT Writing

I have scored 1590 out of a possible 1600 points on the English portion of the SAT, and have taught a number of students how to improve their scores. I also have taught various different academic subjects, including English, Social Studies, Business, and Special Education, at the high school and college levels.

Special Needs

I am a certified K-12 Special Education teacher in the state of Connecticut. I have more than five years of experience in classroom teaching and individual tutoring for students with learning or emotional disabilities. I have a background in developing accommodations and differentiating assignments for students with special needs so that they can achieve more success with their studies.

Study Skills

I have an educational background in teaching students in public and private K-12 schools, colleges, and training institutes. I have taught for over ten years as a classroom teacher and individual tutor. I am a certified special education teacher in the state of Connecticut, having completed coursework for my certification at Central Connecticut State University, and I also am certified in general education, having studied at Sacred Heart University. My bachelor's degree is from Columbia University in New York City.

In the area of study skills, I have helped students compile their work in well-organized notebooks, and master techniques such as mnemonic devices and chunking to learn large amounts of information.
