I have been a public elementary school teacher for over 25 years, and I take great pride in my teaching ability and my love for students. Over the years I have found great joy and success in working with students from pre-school through 8th grade. Besides formally teaching in a public school system, I have also taught religious school for a number of years as well as in-home private tutoring. I have worked with all ranges of ages and abilities of my students, and work individually with each student to tap into their own potential. The most important factor I relate to my students is if they put forth their best effort consistently, they can succeed. Attitude and confidence make up 90% of success with 10% of ability. Success is a self-fulfilling prophecy; if you believe you can succeed.
I take great pleasure in seeing the "light bulb" go off in a student's mind, and hearing those words, "Now I get it!". That is the ultimate reward for a teacher, to be able to see the ability and progress unfold in her student, namely me. I greatly look forward to working with each and every one of my potential students, and know, unconvincingly, that I will do my very best to help each and every student that I am lucky to work with, build their confidence, enhance their motivation, and ultimately change the direction of their learning success. Hope to work with you soon! I have been a public elementary school teacher for over 25 years, and I take great pride in my teaching ability and my love for students. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have had the pleasure of working with students at the Dyslexia Institute in Glastonbury, CT for the past four years. I have been trained as a Certified Therapist and have found this teaching experience to be extremely rewarding. I work one-to-one with a client in an office setting. Depending on the nature of the dyslexia, a plan is developed to help the child improve and succeed over a period of time with areas of weakness determined by an comprehensive initial evaluation. It is very fulfilling for both myself, the Therapist, as well as the tutee, when progress is made weekly. This is accomplished through a structured program for the individual through weekly therapy/lessons, incorporating home therapy assignments in between formal lessons. The results over a period of time are fantastic! This is very motivating to the student to continue with using the strategies in the regular classroom environment, and wonderful progress is made!
I have been certified as a CT elementary school teacher for the past 24 years. I have formally taught Grade 2 (19 years), Grade 3 (2 years) and Grade 4 (3 years). In addition to my formal classroom teaching experience, I have also been a substitute teacher, permanent substitute teacher, long-term substitute teacher, priority tutor, and private tutor at the elementary (K-6th) grade school levels. I pride myself on being able to meet the needs of students with all ranges of ability. I have worked with all kinds of students; learning disabled, dyslexic (trained therapist), gifted and talented and all ranges of abilities in-between. I am presented a Tutor in an elementary school, working with first through fifth grade students on literacy, writing and math. I look forward to working with your child in the near future!
My experience with the Hebrew language has developed over the majority of my life. I went to Hebrew school as a young child. I was studied Hebrew and became a Bat Mitzvah when I was thirteen years old. Since the age of 13 I continued my Judaic studies and went to Israel for six weeks between my sophomore and junior years of college. It was a life-altering experience that I will never forget. After college I began teaching various Hebrew and Judaica classes in the Greater Hartford, CT area. I am presently teaching 6th grade Hebrew in Glastonbury, CT at Kol Haverim Synagogue. I would be happy to teach/tutor your child in Hebrew at any level. I feel very proficient and comfortable teaching Hebrew and enjoy it very much! I look forward to hearing from you!
I would like to be certified in phonics because I have had over 20 years teaching phonics to children in public classrooms and by tutoring them privately. Also I presently am a reading tutor, where I teach phonics on a daily basis to my students. I also teach phonics regularly as a certified therapist of dyslexic students. I have incorporated phonics in my 20+ years of reading instruction in grade levels K-8th grade. I feel that I am extremely strong and competent in teaching phonics to children of all ages and grade levels.
I have a Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Reading. I have worked on reading skills with dyslexic clients for the past 5 years in addition to my 25+ years of elementary school classroom reading instruction. More recently I have transitioned into a literacy/math tutoring position in a public elementary school setting, having worked with Tier 1,2, and 3 children, both individually and in small groups in order to help these students work up to their potential.
