About George

For sixteen years, I taught special education classes primarily to high school students with learning disabilities and emotional issues. I have taught in all four core areas, but am most comfortable in the English and social studies areas. I tutored for the past four years at an alternative high school designed for students who need a smaller environment to succeed. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to develop a rapport and trust. Additionally, I get a sense of accomplishment when I see students succeed in areas they were doing poorly in. I feel like I am making a difference in their lives.

Before teaching, I worked in the communications and marketing area where I worked on advertising and marketing projects. I was responsible for writing at a professional level. Upon entering the teaching profession, I regularly shared my background and expertise with my students. In addition, I love to read and discuss books on many topics -- both fiction and non-fiction. Books are important to me.

If you are searching for a teacher with a empathy as well as expertise, let's get together and talk about how I might assist you achieve success.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
