Keene State College (Elementary Education)
I intend to be a Connecticut certified teacher in September 2016. I am a double major in Education and Geography from Keene State College and has two years experience in Student Teaching. My final semester at school was teaching in a 3rd grade classroom at an Elementary school for children who had emotional disturbance, learning disabilities, and behavioral issues. I was on Dean's List, an Assistant to the Geography Department at Keene State College as well as the assistant for the New Hampshire Geography Alliance (NHGA). I was apart of a group research study on the different effects of using digital and paper maps in the classroom. The study was presented at the Academic Excellence conference. I have been in childcare for 10 years, and was a lead Preschool teacher.
I have done home tutoring before and I love the one on one interaction with students. You can give your full attention, create a fun bond that helps ease the stress of learning a complicated subject, and the student feels comfortable in asking questions which helps them learn. I really love learning and I love showing my students that learning can be fun. Learning teaches dedication, persistence, and opens up new opportunities to find ways you learn best.
I have taught multiple age groups and have mastered Elementary math and while in college took a special class geared specifically toward ACT math. We were given a binder with all ACT Math work to course work and review for tests. The Praxis tests teachers take for certification also include ACT math.
I intend to be a Connecticut certified teacher in September 2016. I have student taught in three elementary classrooms in New Hampshire during college (not including internships at elementary schools in high school), and I have created countless lessons for Mathematics, Science, Reading, Writing, and Social Studies, managed a classroom, engaged with parents daily to discuss my student's academics and behavior, mastered classroom management, critiqued lessons to fit my student's needs, and developed sincere bonds between my students and their families.
I am not only an Elementary Ed. major, but I am a Geography major as well. American History, World History, Physical Science, Culture, Ancient History...you name it, Geography has covered it. History, Science, and Geography are my strongest subjects in teaching.
I student taught in a 3rd grade classroom with students who had emotional disturbance, behavioral issues, and learning disabilities. I was offered a job at the elementary school as a tutor after my student teaching to work with students that had ED, BI, and LD as well as an overnight house mother to girls who suffered ED, BI, and LD.
I am an extremely friendly and outgoing educator that wants to make a difference in the world of education and share my passion for learning. I love helping people and encouraging happiness and positivity in the world of education. I know how stressful learning can be and I'd like to show my future students it doesn't need to be a headache! I'd love to tutor students before I transition into a school district! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
