Hello students (and moms and dads)--
Teaching kids had been a dream of mine for years. I know it isn't always fun when you are struggling in school. I am here to help. I want to give you the passion I share for learning. Together, we can do this, making our parents even prouder. When I was in the military, two of my instructors gave me the bug to teach. After getting my masters (see even at my age I was in school learning and loved it), I finally got my degree to teach. I have been teaching for nearly a decade. I have been a classroom teacher in 3rd, 4th and 6th grades, but I have also student taught in 1st and 2nd grades. I have four of my own kids I work with throughout the year. I would love to have the opportunity to help you. I make it fun but interesting. I expect you to work hard. What is your favorite subject? I love math and social studies. But truthfully, science is so exciting too. And reading, I never stop reading. You can ask my kids and wife. I hope you can talk your parents into calling me, so we can start this journey. Hope to talk to you soon!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
After recieving my M.Ed. in elementary education, I have been teaching for 5 years now. I have been a classroom teacher for grades 3, 4 and 6. I have taught all subjects, including math, reading, science, social studies, vocabulary, spelling and health. I am currently a certified teacher in CT and MA.
I have been teaching for more than 8 years, using math programs such as CMP, Investigation, NY Engage and enVision Math. I focus on real-world applications of math.
Since beginning my teacher career, I have always been a fan of good study habits. I have worked with students in a variety of grades -- 3rd, 4th and 6th -- teaching them to study. I have used the basic note-taking outline, going over each section and bulleting or highlighting the 3-5 main ideas. I have had the kids make a web design. We have built charts. We've color coded different subjects within a chapter. I teach them to study alone, as well as with parents and friends, including groups. We have acted out some scenes to help give them a better vision of the subject. It is all about finding out what works best for each of the students.
