My name is Meg and I am entering into my 23rd year of teaching. I enjoy finding creative ways to teach students that will enable students to become confident successful learners. Students learn in different ways and at different paces. I like to work with students and provide them with strategies they can use as they move forward in their education. It is exciting for me to see when students are feeling confident about themselves as a learner. Everyone struggles with something, we just need to dive into ones strengths to secure their success. Tutoring allows me to work 1:1 with a student. I love it!
I like to have students take responsibility in their own learning. Therefore, I provide data to students to show why we are completing certain lessons as well as how they are improving on specific skills. The data gives students responsibility for their independent learning. I have experience in writing curriculum for my school system. Writing curriculum has given me the opportunity to understand the State Common Core Standards. I have access to knowing each grade levels standards. This enables me to be able to address specific areas to support my students.
I am outstanding as a Math tutor because I have been trained in a variety of programs. My teaching experience has given me the opportunity to learn countless strategies to support understanding of concepts. I use a hands on approach whenever possible. Manipulatives help students to process and understand the meaning behind a concept.
I love to teach Language Arts/Reading. I like to use a variety of genres when teaching vocabulary, reading comprehension and grammar. I use books as tool in my teaching, and I create a "toolbox" of strategies with my students to ensure their success. Writing is a passion of mine in the classroom. I have published hard cover classroom books with my students. These books have student writing and illustrations in them. One highlight of the year is when we gather together with families for an "Author's Tea" to read our pieces of writing from the book.I have also had a guest author come to the classroom to share her knowledge of writing with my students.
I make learning fun!! I support students by focusing on them as an independent student. I am positive, enthusiastic and confident that I can make you a better student in many ways:) My name is Meg and I am entering into my 23rd year of teaching. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor in Common Core because I have been teaching with the Common Core. My school system has their employees create an SLO directed related to the Common Core. I have been involved in Curriculum Writing for my grade which is all about the Common Core. My principal has the staff creating bulletin boards that display the standard and work to demonstrate how the standard is being taught.
