About Mia

Hello. My name is Mia and I am an elementary special education teacher who has been teaching for 24 consecutive years. I have had a bit of middle school and high school experience as well but prefer to teach K-6 subjects with the exception being test prep. I have an undergraduate degree in business management and a graduate degree in special education.

I am 46 years old and have one 15 year old daughter. I love animals, reading and writing. I am also an abstract artist who works with acrylic paint on wood panels. I love helping others and getting to know students. I care about their progress and their unique needs and situations.

I love to write myself and have been teaching writing skills to elementary students for 24 years.

I have been teaching elementary special education and team teaching in regular classroom settings for 24 years.

I have been teaching the basic components of reading, including Wilson, during my 24 year career.

I am a caring, understanding and passionate educator. I will give my all to you and your child in order to help them succeed.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Phonics

I have a Masters degree in special education. I hold an active teaching certificate in special education. I have been teaching elementary reading and phonics for 24 consecutive years. I have used such programs as Wilson, Let's Read, Words Their Way and many more to teach phonics.
