About Spencer

My goal is to guide each pupil to a closer understanding of truth within every facet of classical education. This truth arises via the cultivation of keener abilities of judgment and analysis, within the mind of the pupil.

The student is encouraged through an array of pedagogical techniques, with a resilient focus toward understanding the character and mindset of each learner. The classroom atmosphere is one charged with curiosity, breeding a desire to inherit the passion of the subject taught, demonstrated by my living out the wealth of being a life-long learner.

On a personal note, I love exploring, both through books and out in nature, hiking and backpacking throughout any trails near me. My dog, Donald, is a 90 pound boxer who loves to sleep, sleep and even sleep! We have recently moved out to Connecticut to spend a little more time focusing on education and fine tuning skills. This will be my first year in the last six years that I am not teaching full time and my focus has now been moved to some of the more specific aspects of teaching.

I have been teaching English to 7th, 11th and 12th graders for the last 4 years we have covered philosophical texts such as Hegel to more classical literature such as Dante. The last school I taught at we read over 20 books throughout the year and attempted to balance a classic rigor with a joyful outside life.

More then anything I seek to build a relationships with everyone I teach, to draw the ideas learned throughout teaching to direct applicable situation in life.

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
