I am an experienced high school and middle school teacher and tutor. I am certified to teach 7th-12th grades in CT. I have taught and tutored all levels of math and enjoy working both with students who find it easy to learn math and with those who need a variety of approaches and explanations. I understand the importance of both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency and I have the experience to to help you achieve both.
I have a 4.0 in math classes across all levels, including a few graduate level courses. I majored in math as an undergraduate and have a Master's in Computer Science. However, many people who are accomplished in math cannot teach it well. I have always been interested in teaching and enjoy finding and correcting students' misconceptions that hold them back. I adjust practice sessions to help with the issues that a particular student is having.
I can explain every concept in several different ways until we find one that makes sense to you. I can help you draw connections between the different threads in math and help you see patterns so that it all seems much easier.
I love teaching math and helping students appreciate and enjoy the subject. I look forward to working with you and helping you with your journey in mathematics! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
