I graduated in 1998 and decided to take one year to substitute teach to gain experience at all grades within my certification of K-6. I was hired as a second grade teacher in 1999 and had a very successful year, gaining respect from students and their families as well as my colleagues. Prior to the start of 2000-2001 school year I was granted a one year child rearing leave of absence to stay home following the birth of my first child that September. I was fortunate to have a supportive husband that allowed me to formally resign from my position in June 2001. Over the course of my time off over the past 15 years, I have been blessed with two additional children.
In October 2014 I was given the opportunity to return to teaching on a part-time basis for a nine-month contract as the Technology Specialist for a local elementary school. Classes had scheduled times to come into computer lab where my responsibility was to develop and teach lessons with little to no direction for grades K through 4. Unfortunately, the district revamped their technology program as to integrate technology into the classroom, leaving computer lessons to the classroom teachers. Now that my youngest son is in school full-time, I am looking to return to teaching and/or tutoring.
Besides my experiences in teaching various grade levels, I have assisted in my 3 children's educations. My oldest daughter is a sophomore at private area high school, averaging a 4.0. My middle son is a seventh grader who is on the same road of educational excellence. My youngest son is a Kindergartener, having just turned 5 in November, that is reading at an accelerated rate and is eager to learn. I have the patience needed and have always had outstanding rapport with young children. My mother had a home daycare for over 30 years, so my experience with children started long before my days of teaching.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a CT Initial Educator Certification with K-6 endorsement. I taught second grade during 1999-2000 school year and then left the profession to raise my own children. My children range in age from 5-15. My youngest is in full-day Kindergarten and I am starting my search to come back to the classroom. Last year I held a PT Technology Specialist position at Bethany Community School teaching K-4 in the computer lab. During my time as a stay-at-home mom, I have been very active in my children's classrooms and in the community.
