High school pre- calc tutoring was fantastic. Grade went from failing to an A!
Rachel took time to make sure the material was understood, and if it wasn't, she'd try explaining it in another way until the information clicked. Rachel also provided opportunity to ask questions and provided sample problems to reinforce learning. FIVE STARS!!!
Rachel really makes my daughter think. She gently coaxes her to come to the answer herself which not only teaches her but helps her to gain confidence.
I am lucky to find Rachel as my daughter's Maths tutor. She is kind, patient, caring. My daughter enjoys her class. Rachel is the best tutor. I definitely & highly recommend her to anyone. Thank you!
Rachel knows her stuff. She was very dedicated, coming to our house late and at the last minute to help my son with a particular topic in algebra 2. After 30 minutes, he totally got it and was completely relieved. We will definitely continue to use her and highly recommend her.
Rachel did an excellent job tutoring my 17 year old daughter in Algebra 2. She arrived on time and got right to work. My daughter says that she felt Rachel was very patient and made things make sense. We are looking forward to future sessions with Rachel.
Rachel tutors two of my daughters, one in high school Spanish and the other in 7th grade pre algebra. She does an outstanding job and we are seeing results already. I would certainly recommend her.
We have been very happy thus far. I really like that Rachel has my daughter explain her thought process for working through a problem and then gently addresses any misconceptions my daughter may have about the subject matter. My daughter seems less stressed now, and she looks forward to the weekly sessions.
Rachel was great. Very professional and thorough. This was our first experience with hiring a tutor, and we couldn't be more pleased. My daughter felt very confident with her work after she left. She was very patient with our daughter. We will definitely have her back again.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have extensive experience helping students master the foundations of algebra. I work with students using a variety of approaches, including concrete work with manipulatives or pictoral representations when needed to explain the symbolic reasoning involved.
I enjoy helping students develop a strong understanding of algebra. I try to make things as visual as possible, particularly when working with linear and quadratic equations. I also help students understand the differences between quadratic and exponential equations.
I have extensive classroom experience teaching pre-algebra. I know how to break a topic down into smaller steps and concepts and to figure out which elements the student does and doesn't understand. I also have experience using concrete manipulatives and pictoral representations when helpful.
I have experience helping students master concepts such as factoring, imaginary numbers, and exponential equations. I am able to break things down and to figure out where exactly a student is struggling. I am able to make connections where needed between algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
As a classroom teacher, I have seen how important literacy is in all subjects. I have experience separating decoding issues from struggles with vocabulary and comprehension. I have attended numerous Teachers College training sessions on teaching reading and have had experience implementing these ideas in my classroom.
I have students reconstruct the unit circle so they fully understand it. I also use a lot of visual models to show the relationships between the sides and angles of a triangle and the trigonometric identities. Finally, I help students make connections between algebra and solving trigonometric equations.
