Welcome Parents and Students,
My name is Christopher W., and I am a current graduate student at Stony Brook University studying Higher Education Administration while working in Student Support Services for Cheshire Public Schools. I graduated from Quinnipiac University with a B.A. in English and a minor in Spanish. Additionally, I graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a M.A. in Secondary Education. I have worked in the public school system for five years and have gained much experience in tutoring, teaching, and mentoring students in middle and high school levels. I have tutored students in Math, English, Spanish, and History consistently. I recently picked up tutoring students in SAT reading, writing, and Math sections. While I’m not tutoring or teaching, I continue to find areas of improvement in my teaching methods, tutoring techniques, and lesson plans.
I believe that the heart of learning comes from the relationship between a student and teacher. With this belief, I start my tutoring sessions by understanding the student while observing and assessing their strengths and weaknesses. From there, I am able to create a plan that will put the student in a place of success – each plan is differentiated because not one student learns the same way. My expertise is in English, specifically in reading and writing, but I have years of experience in tutoring students in Math, Spanish, and History. I have taught and tutored plays, novels, and short stories to middle and high school students. I have experience in implementing writing workshops, setting up student portfolios, and creating writing goals to demonstrate student growth over a period of time.
I am an avid reader and writer. When I have the chance, I love to read any book that peaks my interest and write on numerous topics. I am a sports addict – could be an understatement – and follow and participate in football, basketball, soccer, weight lifting, and running. Most importantly, I make time for family, friends, and the community!
I am grateful and blessed if you read this far! If you feel that you want to have a conversation about your child, please don’t hesitate to call or email me about an appointment. I hope that you find assets who enhance and guide your child’s skills in their educational career. Thank you!

Very great tutor, my daughter is so pleased with Christopher's service, patience and time. She is a lot more confident with what she is being taught. She looks forward to her time studying with Christopher. I thank you very much for all your assistance and great work.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have five years of experience working in secondary education. I understand how to scaffold student learning from all the years I spent in Special Education. I have dealt with many students who have various academic, behavioral or psychological issues during their educational career. Also, I have constant experience working with numerous curricula which made my teaching skills highly diverse.
I am a devoted Christian who has been studying the Word for two years. My passion is in learning each book of the Bible. My future plan is to start teaching the Bible at my local church.
I have immense experience in understanding syntactical structures within the English and Spanish languages. I offer various perspectives for students to understand the difference between syntax and semantics and how one can take command of the English language if an awareness and comprehension of basic grammar is met. Secondary education has devoted much of its time away from grammar, which is a necessity for students since the SATs and colleges and universities are highly strict with understanding mechanics.
I have tutored students for five years in various levels of Spanish. Students tend to not understand Spanish for two reasons: a poor foundation of English grammar and a lack of vocabulary comprehension in Spanish. I use numerous educational strategies that do not deal with memorization, but with application, synthesis, and repetition. I have turned many students who had C's, D's, and F's into a B- or higher by the end of the school year.
I have been in the secondary public school education in the general and special education classrooms. As a tutor, I teach students the proper process to studying and provide them with unique strategies for students. I have taught and modeled study strategies that enhance student test preparations by utilizing reading, speaking, listening, and writing. As a teacher, I have used flashcards, Cornell Notes, and creating practice quizzes with a fundamental focus on sensory learning.
As a lifelong student in writing since high school, I have demonstrated to my students how to attain a firm understanding and take command of writing. I have tutored students in elementary, middle and high school settings; undergraduates; graduates; PhD candidates; and miscellaneous individuals from ages 8-66. I employ many writing strategies in order for students to put themselves in a place of success. Additionally, I edit papers through syntactic and semantic lenses so students understand their individual roles and relationships.
