If you are looking for a K-6 grade tutor, I would love the opportunity to work with your child! If you are looking for a K-6 grade tutor, I would love the opportunity to work with your child! I am a former middle school teacher who taught at a private school in Massachusetts before beginning my career as a published children's author. I also home schooled all three of my children from first grade through high school. In addition, I earned a bachelor's degree from Bryant University, and graduated from a two year Bible college program. I have also taken numerous CE courses at ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International). Although I have taught all elementary and middle school subjects, math and grammar are my passion! My extra-curricular activities have included serving as the Math Olympics Coach for students in third through eighth grade (in which my school earned 1st place each year I coached), as well as writing and directing numerous plays for my middle school students to perform. I have also tutored several children after school and through the summer months in a variety of grade levels and subjects, especially math and reading.
I like to incorporate a variety of teaching techniques, which include hands-on, as well as traditional teaching methods, with an emphasis on having fun while learning! As a middle school teacher, I noticed that many of my students found math to be very intimidating. I made it my goal to make math exciting and more appealing so that my students would leave middle school feeling more comfortable, and hence, more confident in their math skills. I felt that if this attitude could be instilled in students at the elementary school level, they would embrace math with a greater eagerness and desire to learn. This is what inspired me to write my first educational children's book, Mikey and the Mysterious Door, which teaches a math concept in the form of a rhyming story to help make math more enjoyable and less intimidating to elementary school children. I use this same approach in all subjects that I teach. The more children believe that learning is fun and exciting, the less difficulty and the more confidence they will have in doing so. I have a proven track record, and I have been told by dozens of students (and their parents) that I was their favorite teacher! My former middle school students who have now graduated college still keep in touch with me today because of the impact I have had in their life as their teacher. I am happy to supply references!
So very grateful for her !
My son has a specified learning disability. As his parents we out source summer learning instead of opting for summer school. We are so grateful we have found Michelle. She is kind, patient and knowledgeable. Most of all she has already taught my son how to do some common core math that he struggled with all last school year, and it only took a quick 20 minute review for him to "get it". He was so happy and we couldn't be more pleased! Thank you Michelle, you are making a huge difference in our lives!Jeanna, 67 lessons with Michelle
We’ve been working with Michelle for about two months now and my daughter’s confidence has soared working with Michelle. My daughter was behind in reading and math and lacking confidence and since working with Michelle my child was able to catch up enough to move on to the next grade. We love Michelle’s bubbly personality and her positive attitude. She is always communicative with what she worked on with my child and is always available for questions. She is always on time and has never cancelled or not shown up on us. I highly recommend Michelle. You will not be disappointed.Renee, 34 lessons with Michelle

Michelle is simply amazing. My daughter is making so much progress I never thought she would ever get any part of math and was worried about her academic future. Michelle is so patient with her and has taught her so many tips and ways to understand what she's doing every week she gets more confident with math...I love seeing the look on her face when she understands what she's doing. I can't say enough good things about her.Bonnie, 78 lessons with Michelle
Patient, creative and effective tutor
When Michelle started working with my son shortly after his 5th birthday, he had minimal reading ability. He knew his letters and their sounds, but was struggling to put the sounds together to see how they formed words. He struggled with me teaching him as he lacked confidence and was embarrassed to make mistakes with me, so he wouldn't try. That's when I found Michelle. She works with my son for one hour, once a week. In one year's time, my son now reads at nearly a second grade level. He has more confidence when reading, and has a great concept of the phonetic rules and exceptions that he can correct himself when reading a new word for the first time. Michelle's use of the Abeka program goes above and beyond. Her lessons begin with the Abeka Handbook for Reading, then she moved into more complex rules and sounds. And because my son is high energy and hated doing drills, she adapted the lessons right from the start to be engaging for him and more tailored for his learning style. He may put up a small fight about going to his lessons, but he truly loves Michelle and enjoys working with her. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a tutor to contact Michelle. For my first experience with hiring a tutor, this has exceeded my expectations.Holly , 71 lessons with Michelle
Kind, caring, knowledgeable, and innovated teacher.
I am beginning to see progress with Michelle's technique of tutoring my grandson. It is apparent that she spends a great deal of time preparing for each lesson. She makes learning a fun activity and is always able to adapt herself to his moods or lack of attention. Her written reviews are completely honest a extremely thorough. She is definitely the best person to tutor my grandson and I feel the cost is thoroughly worth it.Carmelle, 104 lessons with Michelle
Michelle was very professional. She is excellent at communicating with the parent and providing feedback. She is very transparent about her goals and how she plans to accomplish them. My child was definitely comfortable with her and enjoyed his experience. She comes across as extremely capable and knowledgeable. I appreciate her willingness to travel to us and do what she can to prepare my child for kindergarten. Look forward to future sessions.Christie, 11 lessons with Michelle
