Hi, my name is Nicole. I am an experienced teacher and tutor. My undergraduate major was in Integrated Liberal Studies with a concentration in English and Politics & History and focused study in Special Education. I have a minor in Communication and Theater. I have received passing scores on my Praxis exam for Special Education. Additionally, I have been working towards earning my Master’s in Special Education.

For the past year I have been working at The Wooster School as a Bridge Teacher. The Bridge Program is an immersion program for students in grades 6-12 at Wooster which provides coordinated services to students with language-based learning disabilities. I am the 8th grade Bridge Case Manager. 2018-2019 was the first year the Bridge Program model was put in to effect at the Middle School. I was brought on to the Leaning Support Team at Wooster to implement the Middle School Bridge Program. I constructed the daily program of the Bridge Learning Support class. This course focuses on helping students to develop student skills, combat challenges with executive functioning, provide additional academic support, and build self-advocacy skills. In my role as a Learning Specialist, I partnered with the core subject teacher and provided them with tools and counsel on how best to work with students with language based learning challenges. I designed a writing intensive class for the 8th grade Bridge students called Writing Lab. This class focused on strengthening students’ skills in written language. I was an American History and Government teacher for the 8th grade students. This course was a co-teaching model.

I previously worked as a Learning Support Specialist at The British International School of Boston. I taught grades 6-12 in the Learning Center and academic classes. In The Learning Center I worked with students to help them develop their academic skills, provided tools and skill for those who struggled with executive functioning, held students develop writing skills, worked on fluency and reading skills, scheduled extra time on test for those who qualified, and proctored exams. I worked closely with the core subject teachers and provided them with tool and support to work with the exceptional learners in my case load. I taught Skills Class for the 7th graders. This class looked at subjects in health and academic skills. Topics included units on cooking, healthy eating/nutrition, basic Fist Aid, public speaking, and portfolio work. I co-taught a course called College Readiness for grades 6th- 8th. The focus in this class was on what questions students have about college. We covered topics such as Majors and Minors, course selection, what goes into a college application, and college life. Additionally I was push- in support for the 6th and 8th grade level Math classes.

I taught a sewing course to the middle school students. Students learned how to use a sewing machine, read a basic pattern, and learn some of the basic techniques. Students completed aprons and pajama pants. As a result of this class some of those students worked on a community service project, with myself and the head of the Art Department, where they made simple Teddy Bears to give to a local children’s hospital.
