Hello! My name is Amanda C. and I am an English Language Arts part-time teacher in Darien, Connecticut. I have taught in multiple school districts in Connecticut, such as Fairfield, New Canaan, and New Milford. I am truly passionate about teaching Language Arts: reading and writing. I found my love for the subject when I was a child and could not put a book down. This was later reinforced by my high school English teacher, and from that moment on, I knew I was going to teach Language Arts.
I enjoy teaching children immensely. Being able to talk to my students as individuals is extremely invigorating and I know there is more to my students than what I see in school; they have passions, play sports, instruments, and spend time with their family and friends. When I learn about students as individuals, I believe I am able to teach them better because there is more to them than school. I can incorporate their likes into a lesson and capture their attention.
All of the skills that I have acquired from teaching will be used during tutoring. I am fluent in grammar, the writing process, and the content that is taught in English. I'm prepared to help your child succeed!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
While teaching at New Milford High School in New Milford Connecticut, I taught a 12th grade Public Speaking course. I taught the students different public speaking techniques such as cadence, stance, posture, projection, and how to write argumentative, informational commemorative and persuasive speeches. Students were graded on how well they wrote their speeches and how well they presented in front of the class. I became an expert on how to teach public speaking.
