Columbia Engineering (Chemical Engineering)
Hello! My name is Temi and I'm a graduate of Columbia University. Ever since I was little (like 3rd grade) I would stop doing my work and help others nearby with theirs. My mom would always tell me to focus on my work, but I replied, "I know what I'm doing, I want to help those who don't." This sets up my attitude moving forward, always wanting to help others. The only time I've formally received the "tutor" title was in 10th grade when I volunteered to tutor my classmate in AP U.S. history. Naturally though, I've always been a person a classmate was able to run to for extra help.
I love helping students learn and reach their potential. In college I did America Reads for a year. In this program I helped second graders in Harlem increase their literary skills. During my junior year and senior year in college I worked in a program called Science Genius. This program used hip hop to influence New York City public school students to engage in science in ways they've never before. I'm great around people and good at connecting with them. Through these connections I'm able to make analogies to the coursework that will help the student understand the work better.
I excelled in middle school/ high school math. I took Algebra 1 in 8th grade, Algebra 2 and Geometry in 9th grade, Precalculus in 10th grade, and started calculus in 11th grade. I was one of the top math students in my class. I took the AP Calc AB exam and the AP Calc BC exam. I scored a 4 on the AB exam and a 4 sub-score 5 on the BC exam.
I am fairly new to this, thus the low rates. However, I guarantee to improve the student's scores in the field that I commit to tutor. I look forward to hearing from you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
