MY OBJECTIVE FOR A STUDENT'S SUCCESS
I am interested in helping students succeed in mathematics. One on one interaction, with a student, gives a tutor the opportunity to determine, address and focus on the specific causes of the difficulties a particular student might be having, without the potential distractions of the classroom experience.

WHAT MY TEACHING BACKGROUND CAN BRING TO TUTORING
Because of my past teaching experience, I have a familiarity with what students can typically have difficulties with. Because of the range of subjects I have taught, I can tutor the lower subjects with a view toward what will be important for the higher subjects; and I can teach the higher subjects with a view toward filling prerequisite skill gaps from the lower subjects that a student might have. Because I have classroom teaching experience, my tutoring comes with a first hand understanding of what a student's classroom dynamics can be. A teaching strategy of my one on one non-public school experience was to understand the individual learning needs of each individual student.

TEACHING BACKGROUND
I have experience teaching one on one at a non-public school as well teaching in traditionally populated public school classrooms. I have taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus and SAT math. I prepared for teaching through Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) in a CT approved planned program, with additional coursework at SCSU and the University of New Haven.

PRE-TEACHING BACKGROUND
Prior to teaching, I worked in industry in a number of roles with the most time spent coordinating product safety compliance. I have also served the roles of music director and counselor at a camp for those with special needs. I hold a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut.

  • Rate details: For travel distances more than 14 miles, hourly fee may be $10-$20 more. Cancellation: $40 less than 3 hours notice, negotiable depending on circumstance.

I may tutor, at no charge, some extra time beyond the anticipated schedule, to bring the student closer to completing an understanding of a concept (or concepts), particularly at the first session (where there may be some "getting to know each other" time) or if a significant assessment is imminent.
