About Maggie

I retired early after 32.5 years of teaching students from grade 1 through 12 in small groups and individually. I have experience working with all areas of Language Arts, Reading and Math. I am trained and have worked very successfully with the Wilson reading program.

I currently am tutoring Math to adults in a college setting, in addition to privately tutoring children. I love teaching, especially working one-on-one. I promote a very positive learning environment and have the ability to motivate my students and make learning enjoyable. I will be happy to provide references upon your request.

I was a special education teacher and am very capable of making math concrete or approaching difficult concepts in a variety of ways. In my current role as a tutor at the college setting, students seek me out to assist them when they are struggling.

I am very capable of helping students with the writing process and teaching them to proofread and edit their writing. I assist students in getting their thoughts down on paper in an organized fashion and using appropriate transition words in their writing.

I have had extensive training and experience working with the Wilson Reading Program. I have helped students significantly improve their ability to decode, including multi-syllable words, as well as improve their ability to spell and comprehend what they read.

Having been a special education teacher for over three decades, I have worked with learning disabled students, as well as students with motivational and behavioral issues. I have developed many techniques to successfully teach a wide range of students as well as ages, from Kindergarten to the elderly. I am very patient and I have the ability to make learning less frustrating and very often enjoyable.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
