About Neal

I have been passionate about teaching and tutoring for nearly 12 years. I began teaching College Writing and Intro to Literature courses as a Graduate Assistant and went on to teach a full spectrum of literature and writing courses as an adjunct instructor and assistant professor at several colleges and universities.

I have been a professional writing tutor for 8 years. I assist students in all aspects of the writing process: beginning with the inception of an idea and brainstorming to outlining/organizing and drafting, and straight through to editing and finally proof reading. I teach my students several strategies so they don't just write their best possible essay for one assignment, but develop skills they can apply to all future work. I have extensive experience in MLA and APA formatting and citation styles, as well CSE format and technical writing.

As the Writing Specialist for college students with special needs, I developed a holistic approach to tutoring that uses the unique learning style of each student to determine the best strategies. I have helped students with ADD/ADHD, Aspergers, processing disorders, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and several other special needs.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
