I an son of immigrants and as a scholarship student worked my way through Yale University graduating with double major in Anthropology and Environmental Studies. I continued with a MA in anthropology and a MS in soil science from Iowa State University. There I was a teaching assistant for anthropology. I did not come from a university background but a love of learning and ideas kept me enthusiastic about school. With the right attitude and some tricks for how to manage things mastering a subject, a class or a degree is not that hard - and the rewards are fantastic. My working background, success at university and wide range of study and experience make me able to identify with a range of students and teach effectively.

I have recently returned from many years overseeing natural resources on an Indian reservation in the Southwest United States and exchanging ideas in a cross-cultural environment. I have plenty of practical application of the wonderful principles of cultural anthropology (sorry I don't teach archaeology or physical anthropology) to draw on to illustrate ideas and make then come to life. I also have a science background so environmental science, soil science, ecology and earth science are my areas as well. Classes that deal with interaction of humans and the environment are my specialty, including indigenous peoples, conservation, ethnobotany, sustainability, landscape ecology, bio-cultural diversity, socio-ecological systems, etc. Happy to have initial discussion free of charge of my qualifications and your expectations.

I have a patient laid back style that is meant to get you to see the power of the ideas. Then your own enthusiasm and excitement increases your ability to keep on learning. Assignments and projects are all manageable. I happen to have a very free schedule at this time so if you need some extra help, are really struggling or in trouble for assignments -- reach out and we'll knock it down. I can travel, meet a coffee shop or library or skype - what ever suits your situation.

History

Anthropology,

Anthropology

I have undergraduate and graduate degrees in socio-cultural anthropology and over ten years experience working for Native American Tribes in the Southwest US. I was an anthropology T.A. i n graduate school for a short while. I don't have a formal structured method but can respond to any need a college student may have concerning difficulties they are having grasping the material by reviewing and preparing an explanation of the topic. I can combine textbook ideas and examples from my own research and experience where applicable.
Social Studies

Social Studies

I have a anthropology undergraduate degree and a Masters degree in socio-cultural anthropology (as well as natural science). All or most of the concepts covered in HS social studies would have been explored in more depth in the pursuit of social cultural anthropology concepts which covers culture world-wide, cultural change and technology and societies in relation to the environment. My area of specialization was technological change and the environment. According to the National Curriculum Standards the ten topics of social studies include: 1. CULTURE 2. TIME, CONTINUITY, AND CHANGE 3. PEOPLE, PLACES, AND ENVIRONMENTS 4. INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT AND IDENTITY 5. INDIVIDUALS , GROUPS, AND INSITITUTIONS 6. POWER, AUTHORITY, AND GOVERNANCE 7. PRODUCTION, DISTRIBUTION, AND CONSUMPTION 8. SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND SOCIETY 9. GLOBAL CONNECTIONS 10. CIVIC IDEALS AND PRACTICES Nearly every one is a sub-area of socio-cultural anthropology. Any of the less familiar areas I believe education to the graduate level would be more then sufficient training to grasp and teach those sub-topics at the depth they occur in social a broad studies curriculum.
