About Lindsey

My background contains Bachelors and Masters degrees of Science (Environmental Earth Sciences) and abundant experience in outreach and teaching. I possess 10+ years of volunteer work with children and teens of diverse demographics, including teaching in small group settings, classroom settings, large group settings (audiences of 80+), designing and performing object lessons, theater stage shows, acting coaching, and day/overnight summer camps. Additionally I have 2 years’ experience teaching and tutoring adult level science education at the University of Connecticut where I earned the 2016 Center of Integrative Geosciences Graduate Teaching Award and 2015 & 2016 Provost Recognition of Teaching Excellence awards.

When I worked within CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, I created outreach materials for the public to learn and explore Connecticut’s geology, the foremost project was creating the “Connecticut Garnet Trail” web app and corresponding field guide. I have also designed and hosted science events for children and teens, such as “What is Garnet?” for the CT DEEP on Bring Your Child to Work Day that included hands-on activities and then “Sustainable Campus!” tour at Eastern Connecticut State University. Additionally I have created and taught workshops for adults such as “Making Scientific Figures and Presentations in Illustrator” at the University of Connecticut.

I am very comfortable in the teaching environment and find it exciting to witness the “aha” moments in students’ eyes. I am very dedicated in making sure that each of my students are understanding the lessons, even when that requires me to go above and beyond. I am very determined to foster the presence of science education for the next generation and have dedicated my career goals towards that. My time as a graduate student has taught me to be quick on my feet and flexible to come up with creative solutions both on an individual and group work level both technically and in research. In addition to this experience, you will find that I am a detail oriented person that presents excellent organizational skills
