About Holly

I have had the opportunity to reside and teach, tutor, and assist Speech therapists throughout the USA in many demographic areas since 1995. The states that I have taught or provided therapy are Arizona, Alaska, West Virginia, Tennessee, Texas, and Colorado. I have been certified as an Elementay teacher K-8 and as an SLP-Assistant in pediatric therapy clinics and in the school setting. I have been continuing my education to keep up my credentials and to keep current with the education laws.

I specialize in the following areas: reading (increasing fluency, comprehension, and decoding), writing ( handwriting legibility, proper technique, and methodology such as expository or narrative format), language arts (to increase the connection between text to student, text to world, and text to text) , phonemic awareness (Letter name and sound recognition, CV, CVC, blending, rhyming, and chunking), phonics (using Kinesthetic, tactile, auditory, and visual teaching methodology) , English grammar (correct grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and punctuation), and improving expressive and receptive (verbal and nonverbal) language.

I have a BS in Speech Language Pathology/Audiology, also obtained K-8 Elementary Certificate from Northern Arizona University. I have homeschooled and used various curriculum such as Pearson, A Beka, K- 12 program, and Core Common Knowledge. I love the thematic type of learning which integrates what is being learned across the subject matter, but I can teach traditionally (each subject is separated) as well.

I have taught since 1995 in various states throughout the United States. In Arizona, I taught 2nd grade inclusion class in 1995-6, and 8th grade special education English literature class in 1997-8. In 1999, I tutored for Sylvan Learning Center in Anchorage AK. In 2007-8, I substitute taught for the district of Pleasants county. I worked also as an SLP-Assistant in 1996-7, 2011-2015 in various states such as AZ, TX, and CO. I have had my teaching certificate in various states as well.

I would like to reach out to you if you need improvement in communication either in written or verbal format. I love to see the confidence and rapport build between you and your subjects. I believe in positive reinforcement, where the students receive a reward that they work toward. Each student develops and learns at different rates, so what may not work for one, may work for another. I am persistent, reliable, and can be flexible.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
