About Kacey

Understanding a student at their level is the most important aspect of tutoring. When working with a student I strive to understand how they learn best and how best to understand their goals and aspirations. Connecting to students on a personal level allows them to be more open about struggles and the other issues that come with education. There are always going to be difficult subjects in life, learning to ask questions sets students up for future success.

I am currently working towards a master's degree in teaching. I have worked with students for the last 4 years in a coaching and educational atmosphere.

I have a deep passion for British Literature and that passion translated into taking many literature classes in my undergrad. I have begun pursuing a Master's degree in Teaching English.

My entire schooling, from first grade through my undergrad was at Christian institutions. I have a deep love for understanding the Bible both theologically and historically. I have been blessed enough to travel to Israel on a walking tour. The tour sparked a deep interest in the history of the Bible and the context of it as well.

I have helped coached Forensics (competitive speech and debate) for the past three years. My undergrad is also in Theatre, and we were required to take many communications classes.

Study skills was something of a struggle for me all throughout my educational life. I have had to make some mistakes and learn what worked and what didn't for me. Having struggled through all those issues, I have many ideas and strategies that can be customized for your student.

Since moving to Northern Colorado, I have been working in the Theatre world. I have 15 years of theatre experience, on and backstage. I have been fortunate enough to have directed, choreographed and costumed many different shows.

I have a variety of different skills that I would love to share. I love to cook, build, and sew. Spreading passion for the arts, love of literature, and encouraging learning are the most important aspects of my educational life. Knowing that I have helped students understand their passions means the world to me.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have been a product of Christian Education from the time I was in first grade through Undergrad. With that came a plethora of Bible classes, theology and history classes to better understand the Bible. Understanding what the students' current knowledge level and what the end goal is, allows for customized learning and understanding.

Cooking

Cooking for me is something that I love to do. It relaxes me. From the purchasing of ingredients to the final product there is a joy that is found in creating food. Food brings people together. Understanding how to cook is a basic life skill, as well as something that you can grow to enjoy. I love to bake as well as cook.

Handwriting

Handwriting is a lost art in modern society, but it is necessary for the success of students. Handwriting is a pastime of mine, and I have learned calligraphy and illumination as well. Studies show that students learn better when they take notes by hand, and the best way to do that is to have neat and legible handwriting.

Photography

Photography is another hobby of mine. I started shooting an old Cannon 35 millimeter camera when I was about 12 or 13. I have continued in my passion for photography on all of my vacations. I take many pictures.

Public Speaking

I have helped coach Forensics for the past two years. Understanding how to speak in front of a class and judges is an integral part of coaching. Also, as my undergrad is in theatre, we were required to take multiple communications classes on how to understand and communicate with others.

Sewing

I have been working in professional costuming for the past two years. Understanding the ways different fabrics and threads work together is a very interesting part of the job of a costumer. I create costumes from nothing, as well as know how to mend and alter clothing to fit the actor best.

Theatre

I have been involved in the theatre in some capacity since I was seven. My undergrad degree is in theatre. I have had the privilege to study in London and San Diego working with amazing Directors and designers. Since moving to Northern Colorado I have been deeply involved in the Theatre world up here.
