Metropolitan State University of Denver (Fine art)
I have worked as a professional artist for the last 22 years. My work has been shown and collected across the country. I have been teaching in the Denver school district for the last 15 years. I enjoy the exchange of energy and ideas inside of the student/teacher relationship. I find that the teacher can also learn from the student.
Because I was schooled in the tradition of the old masters I can provide my students with a solid foundation and clear understanding of the visual arts. I not only provide a strong technical base but I can also help with the analysis and synthesis of any piece of visual art through a process I created called "The Art of Seeing".
If you just looking to improve your drawing skills, or perhaps you would like to learn how to paint like the old masters, or you are seeking a greater understanding of fine art, I can help. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been classically trained in the area of Drawing. In the summers of 1995 and 1996, under the direction of Betty Shelton (Laguna College of Art & Design) I was privileged to study in France and Italy, where I was given an intense course in the areas of drawing and painting. These courses were taught while observing such masters as Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rubens and Caravaggio.
I have been teaching young and old for the last 15 years in just about every academic setting imaginable. From alternative to public and private, even a few years at the Art Students League of Denver.
Oil painting is my passion. In 1995 I studied landscape painting in southern France and in 1996 I studied figure painting in northern Italy.
I have had a great deal of success teaching this subject for the last 15 years.
I have shown and been collected for the last 22 years.
I can teach you the secrets of the old masters.
