About Brian

I have a BS and MS in biomedical engineering and am pursuing a PhD at Colorado School of Mines genetically engineering algae to produce high-value chemicals from sunlight and carbon dioxide. My backgrounds in math and science are very strong and I have learned a lot about the practical applications of both.

I spent one school year assisting K-2 teachers at Clayton Elementary with teaching students about the powers of mathematics and the scientific method, as well as introducing them to more advanced concepts to challenge inquisitive thinkers.

Since high school, I have been helping friends and classmates with math, science, and computer programming work. I enjoy breaking down concepts and communicating them in different ways to help others understand.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Biostatistics

I have a bachelor's and master's in biomedical engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and Duke University, respectively. I earned an A+ in Computational Systems Biology from Duke University. I am currently a graduate student at the Colorado School of Mines employing biostatistics in the study and design of production microorganisms.
