Hi, I'm Tom! I have always been curious and fascinated about the natural world. Growing up in rural Wisconsin I was encouraged by my family and teachers who nurtured that curiosity. In 2013 I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resource Sciences. While earning my degree I learned how to be successful in facing any challenge by working hard, thinking critically, looking at options, and seeking out information and advice from those more experienced.

While my undergraduate degree and passion for science steered me to many jobs that included working as a scientist, forester, ecosystem restoration specialist, I’ve come to realize I love teaching, which is why I drifted towards becoming a naturalist; a substitute teacher, and currently; a Tech, and Engineering teacher in Loveland. As my career path has shown, realizing that I wanted to become a teacher was not a “Eureka” moment. I started my undergraduate degree thinking I wanted to be an Ecologist, but my true passion is sharing knowledge with others. Working as a naturalist and substitute teacher showed me I wanted to help others learn and so I changed careers. After getting my Masters in Education at CSU, I am now loving teaching full time! Doing this has not only brought me joy, but has given me the practice and experience to to create unique lesson plans that cater to all types of learners, build positive relationships with my students, and promote my passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Math never came easy to me. I had to learn it the hard way: By studying, and studying, and studying! I now am constantly using it to help design projects and problems that can stump even my best and brightest students!

Science has, and always will be my passion. I graduated with a B.S. in the Natural sciences and worked in a profession where I often had to use my knowledge. I came to Colorado, got my Masters in Education at CSU and am now a certified teacher in Science.
