I am an enthusiastic HS science teacher. I have been teaching for 17 years and tutoring for 15 years. Students and parents have told me that I am a great teacher for several reasons. One parent once told me that I was the most compassionate teacher she has ever known. I taught two of her children in multiple HS science subjects for multiple years. Students often tell me that my passion and love of science is inspirational for them. Other feedback I have received from students is that it is most helpful that I use lots of materials to model whatever it is that I am teaching. In my actual classroom, students are engaged in laboratory work daily. As a tutor I travel with specific materials that aid in students' understanding of the content I am teaching them.
I enjoy tutoring because it affords me an authentic opportunity to truly get to know the students I am working with. I certainly enjoy seeing my students improve as the year or term progresses. Working 1 to 1 with a student often provides a deeper insight with the specific stumbling blocks many students face. Tutoring has greatly enhanced my classroom teaching as a result.
What makes me an outstanding science tutor is my deep understanding of the content of all of the sciences. My primary background is in molecular and cell biology, but I teach AP Physics, AP Chemistry and AP Biology (also non AP classes). I use a lot of scientific illustrations and animations to help students clarify/deepen their content knowledge. Lastly, beyond content, I often focus on the specific skills each student needs to reach their desired academic goals.
I tutored Hebrew for 4 years while I was an undergraduate student. I also studied 4 years of college Hebrew at the Honors level, and lived abroad in Jerusalem for a semester. My writing and grammar skills in Hebrew are impeccable because I had one of the best professors I've ever known. She encouraged me to journal in Hebrew, and to learn to read the newspaper in Hebrew.
I have 17 years of experience teaching HS students. As such I have counseled countless students (part of my job duty). I have access to Naviance and am often in touch with the counselors at various college to best understand how applications are evaluated, what services may be offered for special needs and/or ELL students, and what the college requires for graduation
I taught in Beijing for 2 years. I have been actively speaking publicly since I was in middle school. In HS I was an active student government leader for all four years, ultimately serving as president of my entire HS for my senior year. One of my common roles was to speak publicly in various forums: e.g. to address the student body, to address the staff, at community and state board meetings.
When I teach computers I do not touch the computer at all. In other words, my student is using the device 100% of the session, hence learning in the most hands-on fashion possible. I also am extremely proficient in all of the computer programs listed here, on both a Mac and a PC.
My favorit hobby is video editing.
Turbo tax :) and lots of experience being taught by my grandfather!
I've been teaching special needs students throughout my career. I have taken numerous continuing ed courses and trainings on how to best help students with varied learning needs. I use the computer or the ipad for students who struggle with their hearing. I also use simple color coding and illustrations to help simplify concepts for students. Lastly, I am required to differentiate my instruction, and every year I teach at least 2 classes with a special ed co-teacher.
I am a versatile athlete. I played varsity sports all through HS, and was captain of all of my teams for my senior year. I have 8 years experience coaching varsity tennis and JV basketball. As an adult I play in a competitive women's basketball league. I also play USTA adult tennis. I play intramural football and I am on a co-ed softball team in the central park league. My greatest strength teaching sports is emphasizing fundamental skills, sport-specific conditioning, good sportsmanship and teamwork.
I am a super fun and experienced tutor. If you are struggling at all in science, please contact me, and I make your learning experience fun, exciting and thorough. If you think you're just not a good science student, it's probably because you haven't had a teacher like me to show you the way! I am an enthusiastic HS science teacher. I have been teaching for 17 years and tutoring for 15 years. Students and parents have told me that I am a great teacher for several reasons. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
