In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my certification to teach Elementary Education in 1978. I taught reading, language arts, science, math and social studies for twenty years. Many students with special needs were mainstreamed into my classroom. I understand the challenge each student faces and try to teach to their strengths.
After moving to Colorado, I subbed at all levels and resource room for students with special needs.
I'm a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a B.A. in Elementary Education and the University of Santa Clara with a M.A. in Special Education. I can help your child study more effectively and excel in school by improving their organizational skills, time management, note taking, test taking strategies and memorizing techniques. By assessing your child's learning style, I help them understand study skills in terms of their own experiences and interests.
