Hello! My name is Lisa B. I am a Virginia Tech graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a minor in Business Leadership. I was also active in Virginia Tech’s Pre-Education program and was the President of Kappa Delta Pi, an education focused honor society. I also completed an education internship in college where I was a student teacher in a 5th grade classroom for 135 hours over the course of 15 weeks.
I was a director of a county wide summer camp for two years where I supervised over 80 elementary aged children. I was responsible for planning the activities and events that they children participated in each day.
I am currently completing a graduate certificate in Life Coaching at Grand Canyon University.
I am committed to working with all learners to help them maximize their strengths, identify their weaknesses, and create positive outcomes for themselves. I have struggled with anxiety myself and strive to find solutions to the challenges this creates in my life. I apply that problem-solving mentality when I work with students.
I enjoy swimming and running as well as walking with my dog Heidi. ??
I have worked in classrooms and tutored elementary math privately.
I have worked in an elementary school classroom and taken education classes on elementary common core.
I enjoy working on executive functioning with students. This is the part of their brain that helps them execute tasks. Understanding their strengths and weaknesses in this area helps me come up with a individual study plan for each student.
I have worked with special needs children before. I understand how they think and work. I have struggled with my own anxiety and understand hoe this can affect concentration and learning in students.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
