Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra I, the building block of more advanced mathematics, revolves around solving for variables, basic graphing, and developing mathematical reason skills.

Algebra 2

As a certified Math teacher in the state of Colorado with a wide variety of experience assisting students, I have successfully helped students achieve their goals up through Calculus. Additionally, given my vast experience, I utilize a wide variety of instructional methods according to the student's learning needs.

Ear Training

In 2003, I earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. I have a certification in Kodaly music instruction level one, an instructional method with a direct connection to ear training. In addition to the ear training components included during instrumental music, vocal music, theory and general music courses.

Finite Math

As a licensed Math teacher in the state of Oregon, I have passed a content exam containing finite mathematics skills. Additionally, I completed a graduate level course entitled Mathematics for Elementary Teachers specifically focused on teaching this content area. Finally, I have 4 years of tutoring and teaching experience in this content area.

General Music

In 2003, I earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. I have two years of general public school music teaching experience in addition to the general music components included during instrumental music, vocal music and theory courses.

Geometry

Geometry, or the study of physical representations of mathematics, is a vital part of mathematical development. From studying the properties of shapes to proving theorems using mathematical logic, this is truly a hands on subject.

Music Production

In 2003, I earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. In 2007, I earned a certificate in Recording Arts and Music Production. During this certificate program, I produced musical scores for several short films. In my current position as an instructional designer, I record, mix and master audio for nationwide training programs on a daily basis.

Oboe

Throughout my career as an oboe player, I have gained insight into teaching the instrument, skill development, and performance techniques. From beginning to advanced lessons and reed making classes, I strive to help my students become well-rounded, skilled oboe players.
While earning a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Bowling Green State University with a scholarship from the school of music on oboe, I grew both as a musician and as an oboist. Through studying music theory, history, aural skills and performance techniques, as well as several solo performances per semester, involvement in small ensemble performances, and participation in concert band, my skills as a soloist and ensemble player expanded greatly. However, my development as an oboe player began several years before as a member of the Columbus Youth Symphony Orchestra in Columbus, Ohio. Through this ensemble, I not only grew to understand the intricacies for orchestral oboe playing and participated in biyearly concerts, I had the experience to travel with the group to Europe where we performed in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. Through this experience, I developed a sense of the performance skills and musicianship necessary for touring musicians.
Because of my experiences as an oboist, I have initiated a curriculum designed for oboe players to develop not only a sense of well-rounded musicianship and developed playing ability, but the performance and reed making skills necessary to be successful on this unique instrument.

Piano

As a piano teacher of 13 years, I am passionate about helping my students develop their skills and understanding of musical content. Throughout my career, I have taught piano for studios, public schools, and as a private teacher for beginning to advanced students, in an environment ranging from individual lessons to classes of twenty-five students.
As a licensed music teacher, in 2003, I earned my Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Bowling Green State University with a focus in instrumental music. Throughout my time at this university, I gained an in-depth understanding of musical content, developed professional level performance skills on the piano, learned the art of accompanying and gained an understanding of piano literature. With extensive classes in music theory, aural skills, history, as well as solo and accompaniment performances multiple times a semester, I have developed into a well-rounded pianist ready to share my knowledge and skills with my students.

Prealgebra

I am a certified math teacher with graduate level work in mathematics instructional techniques and three years of experience as an online math teacher for a national mathematics support program.

Sight Singing

As an experienced music teacher, I have truly developed an understanding of the importance of sight-singing to well-rounded musicianship. While earning my Bachelor of Music from Bowling Green State University, I developed this skill through a series of aural skills and theory classes as well as the application to my performing instruments. Upon graduation, I accepted a position as a general music teacher, where sight-singing became a part of daily life. In July 2007, I attended a Kodaly workshop through Portland State University, where I learned to truly integrate sight-singing into my teaching style and curriculum.

Voice (Music)

As a licensed music teacher, I have taught vocal music throughout my career. Upon graduating with a Bachelor in Music from Bowling Green State University, I accepted a general music and choir position. Through this position, I honed my vocal teaching methods and instructional techniques as well as progressed as a vocalist. Since this experiences, I have taught vocalists at a variety of levels and ages to develop breath support, clarify their diction, read music, and develop musicality.
