About Ashley

Hello!
I am an Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Teacher!
I work with Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade at my school that I am currently teaching at. I am certified to teach students in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. I am also certified to work with Exceptional Students from ages 5 through 21. I have been working in schools for 8 years and love everything about it! I've worked in schools while obtaining my Undergrad and Graduate Degrees.
I have tutored with the 21st Century Tutoring Program that was offered as an after school program for some of our Title One schools. This program allowed me to help middle school students with reading, writing, math, and social skills. We had a great time together!

Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I like to watch the Broncos, Nuggets, Avalanche, and Rockies games. I love going camping with my family. I also love spending time with my black Labrador dog. Also on my down time, I like to dance and listen to different genres of music. Traveling the world is also another interest of mine. Living Life to the Fullest is my Main Goal!

I have taken many Undergraduate and Graduate level courses for reading. I have also attended professional developments that discuss strategies for reading. In my position, I have a reading class that I teach everyday for an hour and thirty minutes. I also work with students that have reading disabilities. We work on the goals that are addressed in their IEPs. I am familiar with many websites that offer reading resources.

I have also taken many Undergraduate and Graduate level courses that cover Elementary topics. The professional developments that I have attended also cover strategies for teaching Elementary subjects. I use the Colorado Content Standards for my students, and focus on Core Knowledge. I am familiar with many different curriculums for the elementary level. I work with Collin's Writing, Saxon Math, Success for All, Accelerated Reader, Handwriting Without Tears, and Touch Math. I am also familiar with websites that offer games, worksheets, and resources for elementary education. I also work with students that have different subject goals on their IEPs. These goals focus on different areas in reading, writing, and math.

I work with the Success For All Reading Program, which has me teaching Phonics Instruction everyday. I work with Digraphs, Blends, Dipthongs, and Final- E. I also work with students that have IEP goals that focus on Phonics. This will include the mastery of basic letter sounds for all of the letters in the alphabet. I focus on using multisensory components when teaching Phonics. I like to use mnemonic devices and manipulatives as well. I also use websites that have Phonics practice and resources.

I am excited and eager to help you! I have tons of resources and strategies that will help you master the basics and establish a stable foundation. This is going to make learning new concepts easier. I will work hard to make sure that you are ready for the next level. I want to make sure that you have the confidence that you need in order to succeed. You are capable of success! We can achieve this together!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Handwriting

One of the main skills that I work on for handwriting is fine motor. There are some students that are unable to hold a pencil correctly. I have pencil grips that help the students hold the pencil correctly. I also have fine motor activities that help build this strength. This is one approach I take when helping students with handwriting.
I also focus on letter formation when working on handwriting. It is important that students understand how to properly form upper and lower case letters. I like to use mnemonics and pictures to help with the letter formation. I have pictures that show the correct direction to follow when forming letters. I also have a lot of practice pages where students trace letters and write them on their own.

Phonics

I teach phonics everyday. I work on the basic letter sounds, digraphs, blends, and dipthongs. I use the Success For All reading program curriculum. I will use pictures, mnemonics, videos, and movement in order to help students with these sounds. I also have games and activities that help the students work with these sounds in reading and writing.
