About Brandy

Greetings,

I have and am currently working as as substitute teacher primarily at the elementary level and in special education I have also worked with the Children's Literacy Center as a volunteer reading tutor. I just recently graduated with a Masters of Science Degree in Special Education and also have a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. I am a licensed teacher in the state of Colorado with certifications in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education and Special Education K-12.

Their are many reason for why I choose to become a teacher/tutor but the most important of these is to help children who struggle in learning, providing them the support and tools they need to succeed. This is why as a tutor it is my goal to provide a positive and supportive environment in which your student can learn and grow. I strive to treat all the students I work with equally with respect and an open heart. I know that each child learns in a different way and at a different pace. So that is why I work hard to focus each lesson so that it meets their individual learning styles and needs to help your student succeed in school. Also through tutoring I hope to impart to your child a sense of creativity, the importance of positive attitudes, a love for learning and set high expectations for them.

When I am not working with children and helping them to reach their full potential. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, exploring in the mountains and gardening. I am looking forward to helping your student find success in their education and to achieve their highest potential.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Special Needs

I have a Masters of Science in Special Education and have worked with special education students as a substitute teachers and student teacher. Currently I hold a Special Education Generalist License in the state of Colorado. In working with students I have provided direct and differentiated instruction in the areas of reading, writing and math at both the elementary and junior high levels.

Study Skills

I have worked with students as a substitute teacher, reading tutor and para educator for many years and had practice differentiating instruction to meet each students needs. I have recently obtained my masters of science in special education and have learned many new ways to study through this process. Such how to take notes, effectively read text, manage your time and how to stay organized.
